Acknowledgments

We are deeply grateful to the many individuals and organizations who have played a pivotal role in bringing this book to fruition. Their support, insights, and encouragement have been invaluable throughout this journey.

First and foremost, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to The Rockefeller Foundation and Deepali Khanna for her unwavering support and leadership. Deepali’s commitment to driving positive change in development finance and philanthropy has been truly inspiring, and her belief in this project has been instrumental in its realization. As a leader in her own right, she has continually championed innovative approaches to impact, creating pathways for meaningful dialogue and collaboration.

We also wish to express our deep gratitude to the Global South Impact Community, a remarkable network of changemakers who not only contributed chapters to this volume but also continue to strengthen and expand the global call for a more inclusive international development architecture and a more strategic deployment of catalytic capital. Born out of the convening at Bellagio in 2022, this informal community continues to advocate for a just and inclusive global economy as reflected in their G20 statement.Footnote 1

A special acknowledgment goes to Professor Kamal Munir, Pro Vice Chancellor at Cambridge University and faculty member at the Judge Business School, for his continued support and encouragement. As our coeditor in our preceding publication, Reimagining Philanthropy in the Global South, Kamal’s expertise in strategy and his invaluable guidance have been essential in shaping the direction of this work.

We are also immensely grateful to Allie Hollowell, former CEO of GAIN, whose commitment was instrumental in securing the funding needed, and to Andrew Muirhead for his facilitation.

We are also indebted to Valerie Appleby and Carrie Parkinson at Cambridge University Press for their patience, professionalism, and support through the various iterations of the book. Their editorial insights and willingness to accommodate our evolving ideas have been invaluable.

In addition, we extend our thanks to Gabrielle Simonpoli for her research assistance and to Pia Chible Villadangos for her valuable contributions, both of which have supported the finalization of this work.

Finally, a very special thanks to Di Kennedy for her patience and support and whose contributions and behind-the-scenes efforts have been integral to the success of this project.

To all our contributors, reviewers, and collaborators: your dedication, thoughtful feedback, and perseverance have made this book what it is. We are profoundly grateful for your generosity and commitment to shaping this collective endeavor.

Funding from The Rockefeller Foundation made it possible for this book to be published Open Access, making the digital version freely available for anyone to read and reuse under a Creative Commons license.
