Summary

Counter-roll of Martin of Exning, controller of the king's works at the palace of Westminster and the Tower of London, for the expenditure of items from the store of the palace of Westminster, Tower of London and the king's mews at Charing Cross, both those which remained in the store account of Walter of Weston, clerk of the king's works, rendered in 1344, and those purchased and/or used up by Michaelmas 1346, at the end of Exchequer year 20 Edward III.

Physical description: A roll of two membranes, sewn end-to-end; in good condition and wholly legible.

Scope of transcription: Items demonstrably from the store at the Tower of London omitted; otherwise transcribed in full.

Collated roll:

E 101/501/29, the duplicate particulars of account of Walter of Weston, for the same period.

Physical description: A roll of three membranes, sewn end-to-end; a small tear and stain on m. 1, but the roll is otherwise in reasonable condition and is wholly legible; marked as enrolled.

Scope of transcription: As in E 101/470/16, items demonstrably from the store at the Tower of London omitted; otherwise collated in full.

Idem recepit de xj grossis peciis meremij vocatis bemes carpentatis [pro nova capella]1 quarum quelibet de longitudine xxxvij pedum et grossitudine circiter quadratim iiij pedum receptis de remanentibus ultimi compoti

Et de xj grossis peciis meremij vocatis enterteyses pro eadem capella eiusdem longitudinis et grossitudinis,

cxlvj tignis carpentatis pro prefata capella quarum [sic] quelibet una per medium alterius de longitudine xviij pedum et grossitudine circiter quadratim iij pedum receptis de remanentibus predicti ultimi ultimi [sic] compoti [ipsius Walteri viz. de anno xviij]
