About this Elements series
The Cambridge Elements in Urban Literary and Cultural Studies aims to publish books that explore the intersections between studies of the urban and of the cultural humanities. The contributions will focus on both the facilitations and impediments to the understanding of cities as objects of social relations and that also incite the contemplation of its variant form(s).
The Cambridge Elements in Urban Literary and Cultural Studies will draw on a variety of disciplines including literary studies, the classics, anthropology, museology, music, fashion, history, and philosophy, among others. But it will also encourage interdisciplinary submissions that bring two or more of such disciplines into dialogue. The volumes will include city-specific texts as well as those with more theoretical emphases. In line with an urban cultural humanities focus, the Cambridge Elements in Urban Literary and Cultural Studies will explore the varied ways in which the urban itself, in its literature, its museums, its films and theatres, and even in its graffiti has profoundly shaped our understanding of the condition of the global.
The books in the Series will be 20,000 to 30,000 words, and each one will include an annotated bibliography and web resources for the classroom and for further research. They will be published in digital format to enhance each volumes capacity to include interactive materials. Target audiences for the Series will include students, teachers, academics, urban planners, policymakers, and educated general readers interested in cities and culture.
