The method for computing the $p$-localization of the group $\left[ X,\,\text{U}\left( n \right) \right]$, by Hamanaka in 2004, is revised. As an application, an explicit description of the self-homotopy group of $\text{Sp}\left( 3 \right)$ localized at $p\,\ge \,5$ is given and the homotopy nilpotency of $\text{Sp}\left( 3 \right)$ localized at $p\,\ge \,5$ is determined.
The aim of this paper is to show that the p-local homotopy type of the gauge group of a principal bundle over an even-dimensional sphere is completely determined by the divisibility of the classifying map by p. In particular, for gauge groups of principal SU(n)-bundles over S2d for 2 ≤ d ≤ p − 1 and n ≤ 2p − 1, we give a concrete classification of their p-local homotopy types.
A relativistically intense short laser pulse can produce a large flux of X rays through the interaction with electrons that are driven by its intense electromagnetic fields. Apart from X rays from the high-Z matter irradiation by an intense laser, two main processes, Larmor and Bremsstrahlung radiation, are among the most significant mechanisms for X-ray emission from short-pulse laser irradiation on low-Z matter in the regime of relativistic intensities. We evaluate the power, energy spectrum, brilliance, polarization, and time structure of these X rays. We suggest a few methods that significantly enhance the power of Larmor X rays. Because of the peakedness in the energy spectrum of Larmor X rays, Larmor X rays have important applications.
Zinc oxide (ZnO) single crystals are grown by the traditional chemical vapor reaction method and ZnO crystal pairs with a single boundary are successfully obtained. The obtained specimens with one ZnO–ZnO boundary (ZnO homojunction) show nonlinear current-voltage (I–V) characteristics without the addition of Bi2O3, CoO, MnO2, and/or rare earth metal oxides. A specimen with higher breakdown voltage shows superior nonlinearity with negative resistivity in its I–V characteristics. Electrical characterization of the ZnO homojunction is conducted and extremely slow response with the current (or voltage) stress is confirmed. The phenomenon had never been observed in commercial ZnO varistors. The surface temperature of the ZnO homojunction is enhanced by larger applied current. The effect of the Joule heat on the nonlinearity in the I–V curves of the ZnO homojunction is discussed.
The prophylactic effects of carbamazepine (CBZP) were studied in 32 patients with affective disorder who were receiving long-term therapy with CBZP. Complete inhibition of both manic and depressive episodes was observed in four cases, reduced incidence of episodes or decreased intensity of symptoms in twenty, and no change in eight. CBZP was significantly more effective in cases with an onset before the age of 20, and subjects showing a continuous pattern of alternating episodes responded better than those with a more intermittent history of mania and depression. Where CBZP had an effect it was generally apparent soon after therapy started. These results suggest that in some cases CBZP is an agent suitable for long-term continuous prophylactic therapy in manic-depressive disorder.
