Excel Industries Ltd. is one of India's leading manufacturers and exporters of agro-chemicals and industrial chemicals. Established by C.C. Shroff in Mumbai in 1941, it has pioneered the production of many chemicals which were not manufactured in India. It has developed new chemical processes and challenged foreign monopolies in the chemicals industry. Excel Industries has received several awards, both in recognition of its contribution to the chemical industry and for being a responsible corporate citizen.

Beginning from a small laboratory in a kitchen at home, Excel is a leading manufacturer today with eight manufacturing plants in different parts of the country. Its turnover was Rs. 497.46 crores in 2001–2002. It was the first agro-chemical company in India to get the ISO 9002 certification in 1994.

Excel believes that ‘if the chemistry is right, everything else will follow’. This has been a guiding principle for its business operations and for its dealings with all its stakeholders.

The Shroff family controls and manages Excel Industries. They belong to Kutch and their ancestors moved to Mumbai prior to the First World War. C.C. Shroff and two of his brothers after him have been at the helm of affairs. The second generation of the promoters family are now in charge of the business. The Shroff family has been greatly influenced by Swami Vivekananda, Gandhiji, and Vinobhaji. The personal values and beliefs of the Shroff family about concern for society, their sense of patriotism, and outlook on life have greatly influenced the character of the company. The mother of the Shroff brothers – Ma – has been the strongest influence for inculcating in them the values of equality and working and living together.
