Summary
Over the years, our work has been closely associated with the concept of community of practice, and indeed the framework we propose in this book was initially born out of the work on communities of practice. Readers familiar with our prior work may well wonder why we need to introduce a whole new concept when we already have the concept of community of practice to talk about social learning. Two considerations justify this additional theoretical work.
