Summary

A 72-year-old patient is undergoing major urological surgery. He has a VF cardiac arrest during the case, with return of spontaneous circulation achieved after three shocks. He develops complete heart block for which he undergoes temporary pacing and insertion of an intra-aortic balloon pump to support cardiac function. He subsequently has a permanent pacemaker inserted.
