Despite President Trump’s best efforts to destroy our immigration system, the United States will remain a country of immigrants. Given our history, traditions, and economic realities, it is highly unlikely that the United States will cut off immigration altogether. Rather, the question is whether immigrants will be admitted as potentially exploitable workers, as tools of US foreign policy and ideology, as presumptive citizens with full membership in the society, or in some combination of these three models.
