Night. Several days later.
Lights fade up as the music slowly fades out.
SHANELL is at the window, clutching a wine glass, peering out through the blinds. She is dressed-to-impress, heavily made up. A bottle of white wine, less than half of it left, stands on the desk. Although not yet intoxicated SHANELL is ticking rather nicely and is involved in an animated conversation on her smart phone.
SHANELL [into the phone, pleading]: No! No! That's not how it is and you know it! If I could be there now I'd be there! Don't do this to me, my angel, please! It's not fair! You not the only one who has to make sacrifices. [She frowns.] And listen, I dunno about that wedding, hey. It's hard for me to get away on a weekend! [With feeling.] I don't care if there's lotsa’ strangers around. You-me, we dancing, next thing we all over Facebook. [She drifts away from the window.] I'm not being difficult, my babes. You forgotten orready that last time at the Spur, the Lakeside Mall. Candice wanted to take that selfie with you, me and her in front of the Big Wheel. [She is adamant.] No, no! God alone knows what he'd do if he ever found out! And anyway, who organises a wedding in a blimmen lapa for heavensake? A lapa in a game park that isn't even a game park! [She rolls her eyes.] Ah, please, man! It's five kays other side a’ Brakpan! A stupid little safari lodge with a couple of warthogs, a moth-eaten zebra and a giraffe that looks like it's about drop down dead any minute! [She tries to smooth things over.] I'm not tryna’ make excuses now, my angel, I'm just … Where am I? I've just told you, man, I'm still at home! I'm waiting for him to get back. [She moves back to the window.] Ag, he's got this blimmen woman coming, wants him to … [She gets tearful.] Don't say things like that, my baba, this is bladdy hard for me too, dammit! [Desperate.] I'll be there, I'll be there … just give me like twenny minutes, half an hour.
