Abstract

The opposition set up between co-ordinated and mosaic brain evolutiondistracts from the fact that the two go hand-in-hand. Here andelsewhere (Barton & Harvey 2000), I show that the patterns ofco- ordinated evolutionary change among brain structures fit amosaic evolution model. The concept of overarching developmentalconstraints is unnecessary and is not supported by the data.
