BJPsych Advances:

Submission proposals invited for BJPsych Advances’ new Research Methods Section

BJPsych Advances, The Royal College of Psychiatrists’ peer-reviewed CPD journal for consultant psychiatrists, invites clinical and statistical experts to submit proposals for a new regular Research Methods section planned for the journal. The focus is to provide educative pieces for new researchers and/or inexperienced investigators in mental health.

This section expands on various aspects of research methodology. The subject area is broad and could include aspects such as quantitative research, epidemiological research, general qualitative research, mixed methods research, tutorials or critiques of different methods or measurement tools used in research etc. Submissions for this section can either take the form of:

  • A BJPsych Advances full-length article: 4000-5000 words with up to 40 references, three learning objectives and five Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs); or
  • A focused short piece of between 1000 - 1500 words with up to 10 references describing a specific issue. For example, Bonferroni corrections and how to use them or alternatives.

Authors are encouraged to use headings, figures, boxes, illustrations, black and white photographs, and tables to illustrate points. Submissions for this section may also include a fully anonymized case study or worked example relating to the topic. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce images and credit information should be provided with the image file.

Please refer to the BJPsych Advances Author instructions (cambridge.org) for more information about the journal’s article types and requirements.

For further information about the journal visit BJPsych Advances.

Please note that submissions should be educational pieces aimed at CPD for consultant psychiatrists. BJPsych Advances does not publish research or systematic review papers, and academic quality is crucial.

To submit a proposal to the journal (including a summary of approximately 150 words), please read the instructions for authors carefully and send your proposal for the attention of the Managing Editor to bjpadvances@rcpsych.ac.uk.
