Against The Stream Series

Development and change often arise by challenging the status quo. In the arena of mental health and in the practice of psychiatry, the need to question and the importance of critiquing are paramount. Articles in the Against the Stream series tackle controversial issues of relevance to psychiatrists and mental health professionals. The idea is to challenge conventional wisdom and stimulate discussion.

We welcome contributions to the series. We recommend that articles begin with a brief statement of the conventional wisdom/position on the topic as well as the evidence to support it. The conventional view should then be robustly challenged, and ideally the overall style of the article should be lively and readable. Contributors should aim for around 1500 words and about ten key references to support the more controversial position. Submissions should be sent via the Bulletin online system please, as Special Articles:
