Five compelling reasons to submit to DCE:
1. DCE is a venue specifically dedicated to the potential of data science methods and models for all areas of engineering. It was launched for a growing interface that's not being adequately served by titles in the engineering sciences, or computer science journals or proceedings. We aim to a build an open home that helps cultivate data science (defined broadly) in engineering.
2. In addition to original research articles, DCE encourages the submission of translational papers from authors in industry, academic-industry collaborations, or other downstream settings. The journal is therefore open to practitioners and academics, aiming to change both engineering science and practice.
3. DCE runs a quality peer review process through which authors will get feedback on their work from reviewers who have expertise in data science methods and those with an understanding of engineering applications.
4. DCE is Open Access with no requirement to pay an article processing charge, thanks to support from the Lloyd's Register Foundation. Articles are openly available - free to share, distribute and re-use - but the publishing model does not exclude authors who are in the developing world, don't have funding, or don't have the institutional affiliations to cover open access publishing costs.
5. We encourage the sharing of replication materials without requiring this from authors. Authors can add Open Data and/or Open Materials badges to their articles if they link to open data, code and other resources in their Data Availability Statements.
By submitting to DCE you are helping build a growing community of researchers and practitioners using data-driven approaches to improve the safety, reliability, resilience and efficiency of engineered systems.
