The University of Toronto has established a Centre for Criminology, the first in Canada. It will be administratively independent, not under any one department. Six “general minimum” objectives were set out for the Centre:

1. — The development of an inter-disciplinary approach within the university to criminological matters.

2. — Research.

3. — Organization of teaching courses at the undergraduate level for students in the appropriate departments of the university.

4. — Encouragement of research by students in the appropriate departments.

5. — The organization of seminars to bring together people employed or involved in criminology.

6. — The building of a library.
