Abstract

The author reviews the theoretical and empirical literature on L1 and L2 acquisition in light ofthe latest version of generative grammar, and uses the results of these studies to formulate anapproach to the acquisition of L2 grammatical competence. A certain background in generativegrammar is necessary to follow her exposition.
