This book is for teachers who instruct “the culturally and linguisticallydiverse learner” (p. ix, et passim) in the United States; it reflects Americancommunity relations today. The editor's intention is to “assist you [the Americanteacher] in creating a sociocultural context for literacy learning within your classroomcommunity of learners” (p. xi).
