Greg Fraser provides an incredible resource for even the novice student of Greek to be able to access the original text of Aristophanes’ masterpiece Birds. The work begins with a masterful verse translation that succeeds in letting some of the wit and creativity of the original text shine through in a highly readable and enjoyable English translation. So often, literal translations fall short in allowing the literary nuance and masterful rhetorical skill of the original. Fraser’s translation allows the fun and whimsy of Cloudcuckooland.
