Christopher Carr (Arizona State University) and Cheryl Claassen (Appalachian State University) wish to provide the below correction notice:

There are no photographs of human remains or graves in the text or the online appendices of Being Scioto Hopewell (Carr 2021), in contrast to a statement made on page 164 of the book and quoted on page 605 of its book review in the July 2025 issue of American Antiquity. Such photographs were excluded from the book by its authors in respect of the views of American Indian tribes and persons. Page 164 of the book should read, “Finally, a more practical goal of the chapter is to introduce the appendices of Ohio Hopewell mortuary data, line drawings, and primary observations presented in this book when reporting anthropologie de terrain assessments aimed at behavioral and cultural interpretations.”

The complete set of contributors to the book include Anna C. Novotny, William Rex Weeks Jr., Christopher R. Caseldine, Brianna J. Rafidi, Heather L. Smyth, Mary F. Kupsch, and Samantha R. Feinberg.
