Summary

Despite available therapies, mental disorders are the predominant chronicdiseases of young people. Increasing the validity of descriptive psychiatryis now essential. Mathematical approaches can help characterise clinicalphenotypes and aid both causal research and therapeutics in the communityand the clinic.
