We welcome our readers this year with especial pleasure. The Annual is from 2011 being published for the British School at Athens by Cambridge University Press, with whom we hope to have a long and fruitful liaison, renewed some 60 years after the publication of Brock's Fortetsa.

Some will be reading these words online, and we hope that by this means increasing numbers of scholars world-wide will in future be able to access the work published in the Annual. Thanks to the facilities available through Cambridge Journals Online, from 2012 material will be placed online as soon as it has been through the full refereeing and editorial processes. Readers will also be able to access the complete run of past editions of the Annual through the Press's online archive. Among other advantageous changes, possibilities for the use of colour where appropriate will be increased, as also scope for adding some types of supplementary materials too bulky for the hard copy. At the same time we shall continue the printed version of the Annual, valued by many readers, and ensure that it is produced to a high standard. We move this year to a paperback format, which has the advantage of listing of contents on the back cover as well as what we hope will be found an attractive front cover.

For all academic institutions there is a pressing imperative to communicate the fruits of research as effectively as they can to as large an audience as possible. The wide expertise of the Press is now at the School's disposal, at a time when its own resources are stretched to meet the full range of its commitments. The Press's capacity to market journals and their track-record of success in doing so are something the School particularly values. We are confident that this new partnership will for readers greatly enhance the visibility of the work produced by members and users of the School, in accordance with the Annual's remit, and for researchers increase its attractions as a vehicle for their publications.
