Summary
Christopher passed up opportunities to try cannabis until the summer before 11th grade. He hadn’t wanted to smoke anything because it might jeopardize his very successful soccer career, and he hated watching his father’s alcoholism throw the family into turmoil. As soon as he tried a joint at a party, he immediately enjoyed how “clean” it was compared with his father’s drinking – no angry outbursts, no messy vomiting, and no miserable hangover. He went to another party the next weekend and left it with a bag of weed and rolling papers. He got stoned at home every day for the rest of the summer to amuse himself, better able to ignore and feel superior to his father.
