The authors would like to express their thanks to The Templeton Foundation for funding a meeting in 2014 on the theme of ‘Participation in the God: Reassessing an Ancient Philosophical Idea’ in Notre Dame, USA in 2014 while Douglas Hedley was a Fellow of the Notre Dame Institute for Advanced Studies.
