Airway problems are a significant cause of perioperative morbidity and mortality in children. This is a direct consequence of a shorter apnea tolerance in children and the necessity to rectify airway obstructions in a timely manner. A simple, time critical, pediatric-specific airway algorithm in conjunction with dedicated teaching, training, and frequent practice is likely to reduce the airway-related pediatric morbidity and mortality.
