Official guidance on direct payments
The Department of Health produces a range of publications and material ondirect payments:
• policy and practice guidance (DoH, 1997a, 2000a);
• an accessible introduction for members of the public (DoH,1998b);
• a multi-media pack for people with learning difficulties(2000b);
• two information videos (DoH, 1998c, 1999);
• speaking notes/overhead templates for presentations ondirect payments (DoH, 1997b).
Further guidance is available on the 2000 Carers and Disabled Children Act(DoH, 2001a, b, c, d).
Some of these publications can also be downloaded free of charge from theDepartment of Health website (see below).
In addition, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy haspublished financial management guidelines for direct payments (CIPFA,1998).
