Explain what a feature is. You may include the following points:
It is the kind of writing encountered in a newspaper or magazine.
It is not a news item or advertisement.
It provides additional information, entertainment, comment or discussion.
A news item presents facts about an event, a feature may present opinions. For example, news about an accident would contain information regarding the time and place of the accident, the number of the injured, the losses incurred, the action taken by the authorities etc. A feature about it could contain the point of view of a victim or witness; it would be a ‘human interest’ story.
Features can also take the form of book reviews, movie reviews or even horoscopes or puzzles.
The objective of a feature is to appeal to readers with varied interests.
