Chapter 11 stated that heritability of intelligence for adults in positive environments in industrialized countries is about .80. A high h2 value like .80 indicates that differences among adults’ IQ scores are strongly related to the differences in their genes. This fact can lead some people – like the textbook authors that I quote above – to feel fatalistic about the likelihood of raising intelligence.
