BJPsych Open is a high-quality, online-only open access journal for the publication of all methodologically sound research in psychiatry and disciplines related to mental health. In addition to original research, the journal also publishes research protocols; a variety of review types including narrative, systematic and realist reviews; as well as policy and analysis of topical practice and research findings. The journal maintains the highest scientific, peer-review and ethical standards of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, led by a board of international Editors. With a target turnaround from acceptance to publication of 25 days, BJPsych Open will ensure rapid peer-review and publication.

Mission

The journal is committed to maintaining the highest scientific, peer-review, and ethical standards of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ publications. The journal will ensure rapid peer-review and publication – our target is 25 days from acceptance to online publication – with work made freely available under creative commons licences. This maximises dissemination and sharing of research with no cost to the reader in the spirit of optimising public engagement.

Audience

The journal is essential reading for psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and all professionals world-wide with an interest in mental health.

Ownership & Management

The journal is owned and managed by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and new issues are published bimonthly (6 issues per year). The College grants editorial freedom and independence to the Editor-in-Chief of BJPsych Open.

Revenue Sources

Both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Cambridge University Press are not-for-profit organisations, committed to fulfilling their respective objectives of securing the best outcomes for people with mental illness, learning difficulties and developmental disorders and advancing learning, knowledge and research worldwide.

BJPsych Open receives revenue to ensure we can maintain the highest publishing quality and standards. Revenue sources include rights, royalties and open access fees.

Press and Embargoes

Upon acceptance, BJPsych Open articles may be selected for press release by the author's institution, the RCPsych media team (press@rcpsych.ac.uk), or CUP media team (societymarketing@cambridge.org). The press release will be distributed under strict embargo, usually with advance access to the full article. Those registered to receive our press releases understand that the embargo is a strict one, and that no information about the article can be published or broadcast until the embargo has lifted. Journalists can contact the authors for comment or further details before the embargo date.
