This journal is a wholly open access journal, which means all articles are published as Gold Open Access under a Creative Commons licence.

If your institution has an open access publishing agreement (also known as transformative agreements), you may publish your article gold OA at no cost to you, or with a discount for your article processing charge (APC). You can also enjoy access to journals content from Cambridge University Press. Notably, the corresponding author's institution determines eligibility for a transformative agreement.

Article Processing Charges (APCs)
For those authors not eligible to publish their article as Gold open access under a transformative agreement, the publication cost will be covered by an article processing charge (APC), typically paid by the author’s funding body or institution. Please see the table below for this journal’s APC fees.
Members of Fauna & Flora pay a reduced article processing charge fee.
No open access publishing fees will be charged for Book Reviews, Conservation News, Letters and Letter Responses.

Colour Print Charges
There is no charge for publishing figures in colour in the online version of this journal. However, authors who choose to have figures in their article printed in colour will need to pay a fee. The fees for this journal are displayed below. If you request colour figures in the printed version of your article, you will be contacted by CCC-Rightslink who are acting on our behalf to collect Author Charges. Please follow their instructions to avoid any delay in the publication of your article. The print copy of the journal is only available to members of Fauna & Flora International.

Cambridge Open Equity Initiative
The Cambridge Open Equity Initiative (COEI) funds Gold OA publishing for authors from over 100 low- and middle-income countries, covering over 5,000 institutions. Eligibility is automatically established during the publication process and no Gold OA fees will be charged if the corresponding author of a research article is based in one of these countries.
Research4Life
Research4Life provides article processing charge discounts and waivers based on the corresponding author's country and institution. Eligible countries are categorised into Group A and Group B. Group A countries receive a 100% APC waiver and Group B countries receive a 50% APC discount.

Discretionary Waivers
Any corresponding author of a research article who does not have coverage through an open access agreement, an equity initiative, or outside funding to pay an article processing charge (APC), can make a request for a discount or full waiver of an APC by filling out a waiver request form. This form can be completed at any point during the publication process, including after their article has been accepted.
It should be noted that the decision whether to accept a paper for publication will rest solely with the Editor, and without reference to the funding situation of the authors. The Editor, editorial board members, and reviewers will have no involvement with the billing of APCs and cannot grant waivers.
