This special issue is intended to provide a platform for sharing and presenting the emerging research in applications of reconfigurable mechanisms and robotics, including, design, theory and development.

Over the past two decades, reconfigurable mechanisms and robotics have attracted great interest from researchers and engineers worldwide. As a field of study, mechanisms/robots have evolved from a conventional mechanism/robot with a fixed topology and fixed structure to the more sophisticated design that varies in topology, structure, and mobility. This evolution has led to the development of reconfigurable mechanisms and robots with variable degrees of freedom that are mechanically intelligent and capable of adapting to constantly changing conditions. In their various forms, these reconfigurable mechanisms and robots meet the growing requirements in industries, domestic automation, healthcare, rescue and disaster relief, and planetary exploration etc.

The related theory, novel design, control and computation, and manufacturing of reconfigurable mechanisms and robotics have been gradually developed and completed. The application of such mechanisms and robotics are also growing which will lead to energy efficient and environmental-friendly solutions to provide smart and green mechanical systems and robots for the future.

With the above development, the 5th IEEE/IFToMM International Conference on Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robotics (ReMAR 2021) was held on August 12-14, 2021. This prestigious conference, hosted by Ryerson University, and is held once every three years and provides the basis for this Call for Papers.

With the presentations in this Conference, we also note that extended manuscripts of conference papers published elsewhere that fit the scope of this special issue are also welcome. We are also open to new submissions in responding to this Call for Papers.

This special issue in Robotica is targeting authors who wish to contribute to knowledge dissemination in Mechanisms, Robotics, Design, Manufacturing, Biomechanics, and Kinematics, Dynamics and Control, etc.

We invite submission of high quality papers as related to recent advances in Application of Reconfigurable Mechanisms and Robotics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
