Summary
The scene is unforgettable: fire and smoke shroud the mountain, the earth trembles, lightning flashes across the heavens, and a shofar blasts a blood-curdling cry. By performing purification rituals, the people had prepared themselves for this terrifying moment. Now they stand in rapt attention as the deity addresses them.
