This chapter reinforces the argument of processual nature of displacement. It looks at the route that the displaced travelled in order to point out that people’s journeys form an essential element of their displacement. The chapter traces some people’s journeys – when they left, how they travelled, what they took and where they went. It shows that while journeys are different in nature – some people have time to plan and know where they are headed, whereas others do not – they are all accompanied by some kind of insecurities. Be it economic, struggling to get by, fear of being caught, or not knowing whether one can or will stay at a particular place. Many journeys are also accompanied by transformations in family roles. The chapter additionally discusses the amount of effort and struggle it took for the participants to secure land for resettlement, and the accompanying policy which controls their movement. The state has the power to keep people in place or compel them out of their place. The hamlets where the displaced resettled are therefore not necessarily their final stops.
