Through silver twilight, lily–laden, came
The Angel unto Mary. Everywhere
Small flowers lit the grass with gleams of flame,
Between those two, in the pale evening air.
It was the gentle hour of violet light,
The Angel smiled and sank upon his knees;
Darkly athwart the marble terrace white
Fell the chill shadow of the cypress trees.
