Psychiatrists, like all doctors, must offer treatments based on the best available evidence. Yet the trial landscape can be complex, and synthesising findings is often challenging. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses therefore play a crucial role, providing the highest level of evidence.
The Cochrane Collaboration produces the most respected systematic reviews, but their length and methodological detail can be difficult to navigate. BJPsych Advances offers an ideal space to make this evidence accessible through concise summaries of recent systematic reviews, supported by commentaries that clarify key concepts such as heterogeneity, effect size, and forest and funnel plots. Together, Review Corner summaries, paired with Round the Corner commentaries, aim to demystify systematic reviews and support evidence-based clinical practice, and we are proud to have been publishing them for over a decade.
I welcome the publication of this collection of review summaries and commentaries and hope it enriches your understanding and practice. We also warmly welcome proposals for new commentaries—particularly from early‑career clinicians and researchers—which can be sent to bjpadvances@rcpsych.ac.uk. For further information visit here.
