Summary

In its first chapters, the book of Kings depicts Solomon’s awe-inspiring reign. As it does, it pays special attention to his sumptuous table. More than the throne, the royal table was the place where ancient rulers displayed their success and exercised their sovereignty. During their daily repasts, they negotiated alliances, issued edicts, and performed rituals of kingship.
