Instructions for authors

Philosophy is one of the leading academic journals, publishing articles of the highest quality in all areas of philosophy. In order to maximise accessibility, contributors are asked to pay particular attention to the introduction and motivation of their problem and to avoid needless technicality. Contributions are on no account to be longer than 10,000 words, but shorter contributions are much to be preferred.

Philosophy also welcomes discussion pieces focussed on papers previously published in the journal. These should be submitted as 'discussion' pieces in the ScholarOne system used for all manuscripts. Such pieces need to be sufficiently substantive and self-standing to make their own contribution to the debate, and have a word limit of 5000.

Papers are triple-blind peer-reviewed and we aim to give authors a decision within two months of submission. Please see below for more information regarding submission to the journal.

For any queries about submitting a paper, please contact the Editorial Assistant at: assistant@royalinstitutephilosophy.org
