Overseas merchants
The following list provides names of Members who are known with some certainty to have been active in overseas mercantile activity on their own account in the period 1640-1660: it should be regarded as a minimal list, which with further investigation could be expanded. Its focus is on overseas trade, and does not include merchants engaged in coastal or inland British commerce; nor does it include those who invested in overseas trade, but played no active part in managing it.
