To satisfy customer needs in the best way, companies offer them an almost infinite number of product variants. Although, an identical product was not built before, the values of its attributes must be determined during the product configuration process. This paper introduces a methodical approach to predict the values of product attributes based on customer feature configurations using machine learning. Machine learning reduces the effort compared to rule-based expert systems and is both, more accurate and faster. The approach was validated by predicting vehicle weights using industrial data.
Few studies have examined burnout in psychosocial oncology clinicians. The aim of this systematic review was to summarize what is known about the prevalence and severity of burnout in psychosocial clinicians who work in oncology settings and the factors that are believed to contribute or protect against it.
Method
Articles on burnout (including compassion fatigue and secondary trauma) in psychosocial oncology clinicians were identified by searching PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, PsycINFO, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and the Web of Science Core Collection.
Results
Thirty-eight articles were reviewed at the full-text level, and of those, nine met study inclusion criteria. All were published between 2004 and 2018 and included data from 678 psychosocial clinicians. Quality assessment revealed relatively low risk of bias and high methodological quality. Study composition and sample size varied greatly, and the majority of clinicians were aged between 40 and 59 years. Across studies, 10 different measures were used to assess burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and compassion fatigue, in addition to factors that might impact burnout, including work engagement, meaning, and moral distress. When compared with other medical professionals, psychosocial oncology clinicians endorsed lower levels of burnout.
Significance of results
This systematic review suggests that psychosocial clinicians are not at increased risk of burnout compared with other health care professionals working in oncology or in mental health. Although the data are quite limited, several factors appear to be associated with less burnout in psychosocial clinicians, including exposure to patient recovery, discussing traumas, less moral distress, and finding meaning in their work. More research using standardized measures of burnout with larger samples of clinicians is needed to examine both prevalence rates and how the experience of burnout changes over time. By virtue of their training, psychosocial clinicians are well placed to support each other and their nursing and medical colleagues.
Experiments on the National Ignition Facility show that multi-dimensional effects currently dominate the implosion performance. Low mode implosion symmetry and hydrodynamic instabilities seeded by capsule mounting features appear to be two key limiting factors for implosion performance. One reason these factors have a large impact on the performance of inertial confinement fusion implosions is the high convergence required to achieve high fusion gains. To tackle these problems, a predictable implosion platform is needed meaning experiments must trade-off high gain for performance. LANL has adopted three main approaches to develop a one-dimensional (1D) implosion platform where 1D means measured yield over the 1D clean calculation. A high adiabat, low convergence platform is being developed using beryllium capsules enabling larger case-to-capsule ratios to improve symmetry. The second approach is liquid fuel layers using wetted foam targets. With liquid fuel layers, the implosion convergence can be controlled via the initial vapor pressure set by the target fielding temperature. The last method is double shell targets. For double shells, the smaller inner shell houses the DT fuel and the convergence of this cavity is relatively small compared to hot spot ignition. However, double shell targets have a different set of trade-off versus advantages. Details for each of these approaches are described.
Changes of glaciers and snow cover in polar regions affect a wide range of physical and ecosystem processes on land and in the adjacent marine environment. In this study, we investigated the potential of 11-day repeat high-resolution satellite image time series from the TerraSAR-X mission to derive glaciological and hydrological parameters on King George Island, Antarctica, between 25 October 2010 and 19 April 2011. The spatial pattern and temporal evolution of snow cover extent on ice-free areas can be monitored using multi-temporal coherence images. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) coherence is used to map glacier extent of land-terminating glaciers with an average accuracy of 25 m. Multi-temporal SAR colour composites identify the position of the late summer snow line at ~220 m a.s.l. Glacier surface velocities are obtained from intensity feature-tracking. Surface velocities near the calving front of Fourcade Glacier were up to 1.8±0.01 m d-1. Using an intercept theorem based on fundamental geometric principles together with differential GPS field measurements, the ice discharge of Fourcade Glacier was estimated at 20 700±5500 m3 d-1 (corresponding to ~19±5 kt d-1). The rapidly changing surface conditions on King George Island and the lack of high-resolution digital elevation models for the region remain restrictions for the applicability of SAR data and the precision of derived products. Supplemental data are available at http://dx.doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.853954.
This paper describes the system architecture of a newly constructed radio telescope – the Boolardy engineering test array, which is a prototype of the Australian square kilometre array pathfinder telescope. Phased array feed technology is used to form multiple simultaneous beams per antenna, providing astronomers with unprecedented survey speed. The test array described here is a six-antenna interferometer, fitted with prototype signal processing hardware capable of forming at least nine dual-polarisation beams simultaneously, allowing several square degrees to be imaged in a single pointed observation. The main purpose of the test array is to develop beamforming and wide-field calibration methods for use with the full telescope, but it will also be capable of limited early science demonstrations.
This paper deals with new neural networks based harmonics detection approaches to minimize hardware resources needed for FPGA implementation. A simple type of neural network called Adaline is used to build an intelligent Active Power Filter control unit for harmonics current elimination and reactive power compensation. For this purpose, two different approaches called Improved Three-Monophase (ITM) and Two-Phase Flow (TPF) methods are proposed. The ITM method corresponds to a simplified structure of the three-monophase method whereas the TPF method derives from the Synchronous Reference Frame method. Indeed, for both proposed methods, only 50% of Adalines with regard to the original methods is used. The corresponding designs were implemented on a FPGA Stratix II platform through Altera DSP Builder® development tool. After analyzing those two methods with respect to performance and size criteria, a comparative study with the popular p-q and also the direct method is reported. From there, one can notice that the p-q is still the most powerful method for three-phase compensation but the TPF method is the fastest and the most compact in terms of size. An experimental result is shown to validate the feasibility of FPGA implementation of ANN-based harmonics extraction algorithms.
Antigens were extracted from the epicuticle/cuticle of intact female Onchocerca volvulus using 2% 2-β-mercaptoethanol and 1% SDS. In Western blot analysis a human infection serum selected for its high antibody titre against whole worm homogenates did not recognize any component solubilized by 1% SDS. However, the same serum did bind at least 7 antigens among the material extracted with 2-β-mercaptoethanol. These antigens have apparent molecular weights (Mr) of: 15 000, 18 000, 28 000, 78 000, 98 000, 120 000 and 200 000. In ELISA using this preparation as target antigen, 151 out of 153 human infection sera gave positive results. An Onchocerca-specific IgG1 monoclonal antibody, designated Cam1, recognized the 28 000 Mr antigen, which is the most prominent antigen detected by Western blot analysis using human infection sera. In ELISA, using material affinity-purified with Cam1 as target antigen, 149 out of 153 human infection sera gave a positive IgG response. From a cDNA library three expressing clones were isolated with a rabbit serum raised against 2-β-mercaptoethanol solubilized material. One of these clones was recognized by the monoclonal antibody Cam1.
Calendar calculation is the ability to quickly name the day that a given date falls on. Previous research has suggested that savant calendar calculation is based on rote memory and the use of rule-based arithmetic skills. The objective of this study was to identify the cognitive processes that distinguish calendar calculation in savant individuals from healthy calendar calculators.
Method
Savant calendar calculators with autism (ACC, n=3), healthy calendar calculators (HCC, n=3), non-savant subjects with autism (n=6) and healthy calendar calculator laymen (n=18) were included in the study. All participants calculated dates of the present (current month). In addition, ACC and HCC also calculated dates of the past and future 50 years.
Results
ACC showed shorter reaction times and fewer errors than HCC and non-savant subjects with autism, and significantly fewer errors than healthy calendar calculator laymen when calculating dates of the present. Moreover, ACC performed faster and more accurate than HCC regarding past dates. However, no differences between ACC and HCC were detected for future date calculation.
Conclusions
The findings may imply distinct calendar calculation strategies in ACC and HCC, with HCC relying on calendar regularities for all types of dates and an involvement of (rote) memory in ACC when processing dates of the past and the present.
The pick-up coil of a conventional flux-gate sensor has beenreplaced by a magnetic tunnel junction. With this respect, themagnetic properties of tunnel junctions have been optimized to berelevant to flux-gate operation i.e. low-coercitive field andreproducibility of the dynamic switchings. Furthermore, the use ofan alternative two-dimensional magnetic driving field extends theuse of the flux-gate like sensor to make a 2D magnetometer with asingle magnetic tunnel junction without any cross sensitivity. Afirst demonstration is given with sensitivity above 500 V/T anda noise level evaluated to 2 $\rm \mu T/ \sqrt{Hz}$ with an optimizedmagnetoresistive response.
Rhinopharyngeal tuberculosis is a rare pathological condition. It is most often associated with lymph node and pulmonary lesions, but it may be an isolated finding. The authors report a recent case of an isolated rhinopharyngeal tuberculosis in a 64-year-old female. A review of the literature is presented. They emphasize the clinical presentation, that, in all aspects, may resemble a malignant tumour of the nasopharynx, as well as the difficulty of obtaining a pathological and bacteriological diagnosis.
Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC) for high energy and power density applications, based on glassy carbon (GO) electrodes, are being developed in our laboratory. In the context of this project, GC sheets were oxidized and investigated with Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS), Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Nitrogen Gas Adsorption (BET). During oxidation an active film with open pores is built on the surface of the GC. Upon oxidation, the internal volumetric surface area of the active film decreases, whereas the volumetric electrochemical double layer capacitance increases. We show that this effect is correlated with the opening, the growth and the coalescence of the pores.
Prior studies have suggested that the risk of testicular cancer among dizygotic twins may exceed that among monozygotic twins or the general population. Cryptorchidism is associated with testicular cancer and twinship, and therefore might potentially explain the findings of the prior studies. In 1993-1994, when they were 66 to 77 years of age, 14,326 twin individuals in the National Academy of Sciencies-National Research Council Twin Registry were interviewed by telephone. A history of testicular cancer was reported by 5 (0.08%) of 5951 monozygotic twins and 11 (0.16%) of 6992 dizygotic twins. Follow-up interviews concerning testicular cancer risk factors and treatment were able to be administered to 4 of the monozygotic and 9 of the dizygotic twins reporting testicular cancer. A history of cryptorchidism was reported in the follow-up interview by only one dizygotic twin. Our data agree with the results of prior studies reporting a more frequent occurrence of testicular cancer among dizygotic than monozygotic twins. Although somewhat limited by small numbers, our study also suggests that the findings of increased testicular cancer in dizygotic twins are not explained simply by increased occurrence of cryptorchidism in twins.
Series of poly(urethanes) were prepared in which the spacer groups between the rigid segments contained siloxanes. The conditions for the appearence of liquid crystallinity and a fair thermal stability were investigated and compared to those of corresponding esters.
