This work proposes a novel crossover cavity with high isolation and power handling capability. It consists of a one-pole Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) circular resonator that excites two decoupled evanescent modes at the same resonant frequency. The proposed structure deploys two substrates acting as one evanescent-mode circular cavity. The electric fields of the evanescent modes are confined in the secondary substrate. Meanwhile, most of their magnetic fields exist in the main substrate. Each semicircular post is loaded by a capacitive load ($C_{1}$) in the secondary substrate, defining the resonant frequencies of the excited modes. Moreover, the isolation between channels is controlled through capacitive slots in the top metal layer of the main substrate. Consequently, the resonant frequency of the proposed crossover cavity and the isolation between its channels are independently tuned. The proposed SIW crossover cavity is implemented at 8.7 GHz with a size of (0.65$\lambda_{g}\times $0.65$\lambda_{g}$). A high-power handling capability of 44.7 dBm is measured. Also, 1.7 dB and 64 dB levels of insertion loss and isolation are measured, respectively. Furthermore, a 50-dB isolation bandwidth of 739 MHz is achieved. The scalability of the one-pole crossover cavity to a second-order transfer function has been demonstrated in a simulated two-channel crossover configuration.
Opera Remixed critically examines operatic hybridity and considers the opportunities and challenges of disrupting traditional paradigms of classical singing. Accounts of crossover forms like 'popera' and musical theatre explore alternative approaches to operatic vocality, examining how entrenched genre ideologies are challenged by creative agents, practices, and technologies at work near opera's borders. To illustrate these dynamics, the second half of the Element presents a case study of operatic arias reimagined for TikTok as one possible blueprint for how opera might embrace innovation and 'remix' itself for a contemporary audience. Opera Remixed concludes with a critique of the elitist traditions that hinder opera's capacity for renewal, arguing that the art form will only be able to embrace a truly inclusive future by relinquishing constraints of canonical purity.
Though it goes against the common conception of Schoenberg as a no-nonsense adherent to high art and modernism, popular music played an important role in the composer’s life and work. This chapter will survey Schoenberg’s engagement with the popular music and popular-music culture by focusing on four dimensions of that engagement: Schoenberg’s early-period cabaret songs; the use of popular music in his mature works before 1933; his relationship to popular music while living in Los Angeles; and the role of popular music in Schoenberg’s theories.
This paper details the design and development of a planar switched beam network using 4 × 4 Butler matrix (BM) over a thin and flexible type biocompatible substrate. Four mils thick liquid crystal polymer (LCP) is used as a substrate here (ϵr = 2.92, tanδ = 0.002). The proposed design is centered at 28 GHz, targeting commercial millimeter-wave applications. Floral-shaped antenna with defective ground structures has been implemented as basic radiating elements. The whole structure is based on microstrip line configuration. The architecture occupies an area of 23.85 × 19.20 mm2 over the LCP substrate. Individual components of the BM are detailed here, followed by a system analysis of the whole integrated structure. The present work also covers the electrical equivalent circuit modeling of the whole beam-forming network. The fabricated prototype offers better than 18 dB return losses at each input port for the desired frequency band with 6 dBi (max.) peak gain and 500 MHz bandwidth around the center frequency. Port-to-port isolation of better than 15 dB is achieved with this topology. Experimental and simulated results are in good agreement in all aspects. A comparative study is also chalked out to highlight the significance of the current research work with respect to alike earlier reported structures.
This article argues that “crossover”– a recording artist's movement across the racialized boundaries of commercial music genres and the attainment of a broader consumer base– is central to the history and production logic of the U.S. commercial dance industry. By framing the televised variety show The Jacksons (1976–1977) as a formative production experience for Michael and Janet Jackson and situating it within a genealogy of popular dance on commercial television, I examine how racial and class signifiers were used to appeal to different demographics, highlighting the historical lineages and capitalist foundations of the U.S. commercial dance industry.
The main components of a lidar receiver include the telescope, a field stop, a collimating lens, an optical filter, a field lens, and a detector. These elements are discussed sequentially. Incidence angle and temperature effects on filter response are quantified, and techniques for filter tuning are described. Common spectral shapes of interference filters are given along with their equivalent rectangular widths. Filter aging effects are described, with examples. Polarization sensitivity in receivers is discussed, along with a review of common lidar polarization analyzers. An actual lidar receiver design is described as an example. The shape of the geometrical function (also called the crossover or overlap function) is shown, and a review of geometric optics is given. Engineering the geometrical function is then discussed at length, with many diagrams. Formulas for finding the start and end of crossover are derived, and a graphical technique is introduced for visualizing the results. A two-receiver method for monitoring much of the geometrical function is illustrated with an example. Finally, comments on methods for achieving lidar transmitter–receiver alignment are presented.
Transition across eating disorder diagnoses is common, reflecting instability of specific eating disorder presentations. Previous studies have examined temporal stability of diagnoses in adult treatment-seeking samples but have not uniformly captured initial presentation for treatment. The current study examines transitions across eating disorder diagnostic categories in a large, treatment-seeking sample of individuals born in Sweden and compares these transitions across two birth cohorts and from initial diagnosis.
Methods
Data from Swedish eating disorders quality registers were extracted in 2013, including 9622 individuals who were seen at least twice from 1999 to 2013. Patterns of remission were examined in the entire sample and subsequently compared across initial diagnoses. An older (born prior to 1990) and younger birth cohort were also identified, and analyses compared these cohorts on patterns of diagnostic transition.
Results
Although diagnostic instability was common, transition between threshold eating disorder diagnoses was infrequent. For all diagnoses, transition to remission was likely to occur following a diagnosis state that matched initial diagnosis, or through a subthreshold diagnostic state. Individuals in the younger cohort were more likely to transition to a state of remission than those in the older cohort.
Conclusions
Results indicate more temporal continuity in eating disorder presentations than suggested by previous research and highlight the importance of early detection and intervention in achieving remission.
