In a $k$-replica Edgeworth box economy, we compare outcomes of laboratory markets in which human traders have different visualizations available on their screens. Novel visualizations include a heat map that shows at a glance the value of all feasible portfolios (i.e., final allocations); a geometric display of the order book; and order entry via point-and-click on the heat map. Efficiency metrics focus on allocations, prices and profitability. Compared to the traditional text-oriented trader screen for the continuous double auction, we find that the novel features generally increase all three efficiency metrics.

ShinyItemAnalysis (SIA) is an R package and shiny application for an interactive presentation of psychometric methods and analysis of multi-item measurements in psychology, education, and social sciences in general. In this article, we present a new feature introduced in the recent version of the package, called “SIA modules,” which allows researchers and practitioners to offer new analytical methods for broader use via add-on extensions. SIA modules are designed to integrate with and build upon the SIA interactive application, enabling them to leverage the existing infrastructure for tasks, such as data uploading and processing. They can access and further use a range of outputs from various analyses, including models and datasets. Because SIA modules come in R packages (or extend existing ones), they can be bundled with their datasets, utilize object-oriented systems, or even compiled code. We illustrate the concepts using sample modules from the newly introduced SIAmodules package and other packages. After providing a general overview of building Shiny applications, we describe how to develop the SIA add-on modules with the support of the new SIAtools package. Finally, we discuss the possibilities of future development and emphasize the importance of freely available, interactive psychometric software for disseminating methodological innovations.

This research proposes an inexpensive technique for wireless image transfer for security and surveillance applications. The technique uses a 5.8 GHz transmitter and receiver module, along with external antennas in the real-time image transfer within a radius of 100 m. The transferred images are stored in a laptop using a Python code-based graphical user interface application. Different antennas, dipole, circular split-ring resonators, hexagonal split-ring resonators, and metamaterial antennas are utilized for comparison. The Blind/Referenceless Image Spatial Quality Evaluator method is used to assess the picture quality of transferred images to quantify image transfer performance when no ground truth or reference photos are supplied. According to the presented results, images transferred using metamaterial antennas have higher quality than those transferred with other types of antennas. For security considerations, such a system can communicate and store the images in real time.

Answer set programming (ASP) is one of the major declarative programming paradigms in the area of logic programming and non-monotonic reasoning. Despite that ASP features a simple syntax and an intuitive semantics, errors are common during the development of ASP programs. In this paper we propose a novel debugging approach allowing for interactive localization of bugs in non-ground programs. The new approach points the user directly to a set of non-ground rules involved in the bug, which might be refined (up to the point in which the bug is easily identified) by asking the programmer a sequence of questions on an expected answer set. The approach has been implemented on top of the ASP solver wasp. The resulting debugger has been complemented by a user-friendly graphical interface, and integrated in aspide, a rich integrated development environment (IDE) for answer set programs. In addition, an empirical analysis shows that the new debugger is not affected by the grounding blowup limiting the application of previous approaches based on meta-programming.

This paper illustrates basic concepts of real-time control systems through the application of a real-time single-processor computing environment for the control of a robotic arm. The paper describes elements for the selection of the real-time architecture, the control algorithm and the graphical user interface. The system provides an opportunity for users to verify the robot performance by changing on-line the controller parameters and the shape of the desired motion.
