Abstract

This commentary provides a developmental neuroscience perspective on brain plasticity concerning the sequence of social environments we experience throughout our lives. After adolescence, play and variable behavior tend to be discouraged, and individuals often develop rigid behavioral patterns. This tendency becomes even more evident with further aging, and, with fewer new learning opportunities, environment-driven brain plasticity progressively decreases.
