We prove that generalized free products of finitely generated free-byfinite groups amalgamating a cyclic subgroup are subgroup separable. From this it follows that if where t ≥ 1 and u, v are words on {a1,...,am} and {b1,...,bn} respectively then G is subgroup separable thus generalizing a result in [9] that such groups have solvable word problems.

We describe the structure of the collineation groups of Figueroa planes, giving examples and explanations that show why the description in Dempwolff [3] is not completely accurate. We also give criteria for when Figueroa planes are isomorphic, and show that certain subplanes are Figueroa or Pappian planes.

Let be the Zemanian space of Hankel transformable generalized functions and let be the space of Hankel convolution operators for . This is the dual of a subspace of for which is also the space of Hankel convolutors. In this paper the elements of are characterized as those in and in that commute with Hankel translations. Moreover, necessary and sufficient conditions on the generalized Hankel transform are established in order that every such that in .

We show that L1(μ) has a weak Hadamard differential)le renorm (i.e. differentiable away from the origin uniformly on all weakly compact sets) if and only if μ is sigma finite. As a consequence several powerful recent differentiability theorems apply to subspaces of L1.

Each g ∊ ℤ[x] defines a homeomorphism of a compact space We investigate the isomorphism classes of the C*-crossed product algebra Bg associated with the dynamical system An isomorphism invariant Eg of the algebra Bg is shown to determine the algebra Bg up to * or * anti-isomorphism if degree g ≤ 1 and 1 is not a root of g or if degree g = 2 and g is irreducible. It is also observed that the entropy of the dynamical system is equal to the growth rate of the periodic points if g has no roots of unity as zeros. This slightly extends the previously known equality of these two quantities under the assumption that g has no zeros on the unit circle.

We identify a condition, which we refer to as cohesiveness, on a subgroup S of the socle G[p] — {x ∊ G : px = 0} of an abelian p-group G which is necessary for S to be the socle of an isotype subgroup of G. It is shown, when S is countable, that this condition is both necessary and sufficient. A further restriction, definable in terms of the coset valuation on G/S, leads to the notion of S being completely cohesive in G. When S is countable, this latter condition is both necessary and sufficient for S to serve as the socle of a balanced subgroup of G. Also noteworthy is the fact that if H and K are, respectively, balanced and isotype subgroups of G with H[p] = K[p], then K is necessarily balanced in G.

I want to say immediately that, despite the authoritative-sounding title, I am not claiming a proof of anything like the Lichtenbaum-Quillen conjecture. My intent here is only to explain the conjecture in various special cases, but maybe from an idiosyncratic point of view.

We prove a two-sided version of Hardy's inequality by methods arising from the proof of the Littlewood conjecture.

We present sufficient conditions for entire cyclic cohomology to reduce to ordinary cyclic cohomology. These conditions are characteristic for finite dimensional (noncommutative) spaces.

Let be the invariant Laplacian on the open unit ball B of Cn and let Xλ denote the set of those f € C2(B) such that counterparts of some known results on X0, i.e. on M-harmonic functions, are investigated here. We distinguish those complex numbers λ for which the real parts of functions in Xλ belongs to Xλ. We distinguish those λ for which the Maximum Modulus Priniple remains true. A kind of weighted Maximum Modulus Principle is presented. As an application, setting α ≥ ½ and λ = 4n2α(α — 1), we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for a function f in Xλ to be represented as

For any convex body C in ℝd we introduce the notion of the convex shell and we prove that there exists a unique "minimal" convex shell, extending the notion of the minimal spherical shell of C. Then we prove that a "typical" convex body touches the boundary of its minimal convex shell in precisely d + 2 points.

In this paper we study the local bifurcation of critical periods of periodic orbits in the neighborhood of a nondegenerate centre of a vector field with a homogeneous nonlinearity of the third degree. We show that at most three local critical periods bifurcate from a weak linear centre of finite order or from the linear isochrone and at most two local critical periods from the nonlinear isochrone. Moreover, in both cases, there are perturbations with the maximum number of critical periods.

In this paper, we consider the oscillatory behavior of the second order neutral delay differential equation

where t ≥ t0,T and σ are positive constants, a,p, q € C(t0, ∞), R),f ∊ C[R, R]. Some sufficient conditions are established such that the above equation is oscillatory. The obtained oscillation criteria generalize and improve a number of known results about both neutral and delay differential equations.

Then a continuous map-germ f: (Rn — 0,0) —> Rm is called blow analytic if there exists an analytic map-germ such that Then an inverse mapping theorem for blow analytic mappings as a generalization of classical theorem is shown. And the following is shown. Theorem: The analytic family of blow analytic functions with isolated singularities admits an analytic trivialization after blowing-up.
