Patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) exhibit smaller regional brain volumes in commonly reported regions including the amygdala and hippocampus, regions associated with fear and memory processing. In the current study, we have conducted a voxel-based morphometry (VBM) meta-analysis using whole-brain statistical maps with neuroimaging data from the ENIGMA-PGC PTSD working group.
Methods
T1-weighted structural neuroimaging scans from 36 cohorts (PTSD n = 1309; controls n = 2198) were processed using a standardized VBM pipeline (ENIGMA-VBM tool). We meta-analyzed the resulting statistical maps for voxel-wise differences in gray matter (GM) and white matter (WM) volumes between PTSD patients and controls, performed subgroup analyses considering the trauma exposure of the controls, and examined associations between regional brain volumes and clinical variables including PTSD (CAPS-4/5, PCL-5) and depression severity (BDI-II, PHQ-9).
Results
PTSD patients exhibited smaller GM volumes across the frontal and temporal lobes, and cerebellum, with the most significant effect in the left cerebellum (Hedges’ g = 0.22, pcorrected = .001), and smaller cerebellar WM volume (peak Hedges’ g = 0.14, pcorrected = .008). We observed similar regional differences when comparing patients to trauma-exposed controls, suggesting these structural abnormalities may be specific to PTSD. Regression analyses revealed PTSD severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum (pcorrected = .003), while depression severity was negatively associated with GM volumes within the cerebellum and superior frontal gyrus in patients (pcorrected = .001).
Conclusions
PTSD patients exhibited widespread, regional differences in brain volumes where greater regional deficits appeared to reflect more severe symptoms. Our findings add to the growing literature implicating the cerebellum in PTSD psychopathology.
On October 3–4, 2023 and September 30–October 1, 2024, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Supportive Care Service hosted the 4th and 5th Annual U.S. Celebration of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (WHPCD) conferences, respectively. This article describes both events and lessons learned in anticipation of the 6th annual conference to be held October 6–7, 2025.
Methods
The 4th and 5th annual events, conference planning team reflection, and attendee evaluation responses are summarized.
Results
Since 2020, the conference has attracted attendees from around the world. Two primary aims continue to guide the event: community building and wisdom sharing at the intersection of art and science. Both the 2023 and 2024 events consisted of 13 unique interactive sessions addressing diverse hospice and palliative care topics delivered by interprofessional experts in palliative care (43 faculty in 2023 and 54 in 2024). Multidisciplinary registrants more than doubled from 764 in 43 countries (2023) to 1678 in 87 countries (2024). Complimentary registration for colleagues in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), students and trainees, and individuals experiencing financial hardship remains a cornerstone of inclusion and equitable access to the event.
Significance of results
The U.S. WHPCD Conference provides a virtual platform to disseminate high-quality science, honor both clinician and patient and caregiver experiences, and celebrate hospice and palliative care delivery during substantial local and global change across practice and policy domains. We remain committed to ensuring an internationally relevant, culturally diverse, and multidisciplinary and interprofessional agenda that will draw increased participation worldwide during future annual events.
Multicenter clinical trials are essential for evaluating interventions but often face significant challenges in study design, site coordination, participant recruitment, and regulatory compliance. To address these issues, the National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences established the Trial Innovation Network (TIN). The TIN offers a scientific consultation process, providing access to clinical trial and disease experts who provide input and recommendations throughout the trial’s duration, at no cost to investigators. This approach aims to improve trial design, accelerate implementation, foster interdisciplinary teamwork, and spur innovations that enhance multicenter trial quality and efficiency. The TIN leverages resources of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program, complementing local capabilities at the investigator’s institution. The Initial Consultation process focuses on the study’s scientific premise, design, site development, recruitment and retention strategies, funding feasibility, and other support areas. As of 6/1/2024, the TIN has provided 431 Initial Consultations to increase efficiency and accelerate trial implementation by delivering customized support and tailored recommendations. Across a range of clinical trials, the TIN has developed standardized, streamlined, and adaptable processes. We describe these processes, provide operational metrics, and include a set of lessons learned for consideration by other trial support and innovation networks.
Electronic health records (EHRs), increasingly available in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), provide an opportunity to study transdiagnostic features of serious mental illness (SMI) and its trajectories.
Aims
Characterise transdiagnostic features and diagnostic trajectories of SMI using an EHR database in an LMIC institution.
Method
We conducted a retrospective cohort study using EHRs from 2005–2022 at Clínica San Juan de Dios Manizales, a specialised mental health facility in Colombia, including 22 447 patients with schizophrenia (SCZ), bipolar disorder (BPD) or severe/recurrent major depressive disorder (MDD). Using diagnostic codes and clinical notes, we analysed the frequency of suicidality and psychosis across diagnoses, patterns of diagnostic switching and the accumulation of comorbidities. Mixed-effect logistic regression was used to identify factors influencing diagnostic stability.
Results
High frequencies of suicidality and psychosis were observed across diagnoses of SCZ, BPD and MDD. Most patients (64%) received multiple diagnoses over time, including switches between primary SMI diagnoses (19%), diagnostic comorbidities (30%) or both (15%). Predictors of diagnostic switching included mentions of delusions (odds ratio = 1.47, 95% CI 1.34–1.61), prior diagnostic switching (odds ratio = 4.01, 95% CI 3.7–4.34) and time in treatment, independent of age (log of visit number; odds ratio = 0.57, 95% CI 0.54–0.61). Over 80% of patients reached diagnostic stability within 6 years of their first record.
Conclusions
Integrating structured and unstructured EHR data reveals transdiagnostic patterns in SMI and predictors of disease trajectories, highlighting the potential of EHR-based tools for research and precision psychiatry in LMICs.
A new formulation of pyroxasulfone + encapsulated saflufenacil has been developed. Combining these two herbicides extends the application window to early postemergence. Pyroxasulfone, saflufenacil (suspension concentrate), and pyroxasulfone + encapsulated saflufenacil (microcapsule suspension) were applied to corn preemergence and evaluated for corn injury, corn yield, and visible weed control; in addition, the interaction (antagonistic, additive, or synergistic) was ascertained for each parameter. Six field trials were conducted at three locations in southwestern Ontario in 2022 and 2023. Pyroxasulfone was applied at 90, 120, and 150 g ai ha−1; saflufenacil was applied at 56, 75, and 95 g ai ha−1; and pyroxasulfone + encapsulated saflufenacil was applied at 146, 195, 245 g ai ha−1, equal to the combined rates of pyroxasulfone and saflufenacil. All pyroxasulfone, encapsulated saflufenacil, and pyroxasulfone + encapsulated saflufenacil treatments caused no corn injury. Weed control varied based on application rate and weed species. Reduced weed interference with pyroxasulfone + encapsulated saflufenacil at 195 and 245 g ai ha−1 resulted in corn yield that was similar to the weed-free control and the industry standard of S-metolachlor/atrazine/mesotrione/bicyclopyrone. The interaction between pyroxasulfone and encapsulated saflufenacil for weed control was additive.
Many AI development organizations advertise that they have offices of ethics that facilitate ethical AI. However, concerns have been raised that these offices are merely symbolic and do not actually promote ethics. We address the question of how we can know whether an organization is engaging in ethics washing in this way. We articulate an account of organizational power, and we argue that ethics offices that have power are not merely symbolic. Furthermore, we develop a framework for assessing whether an organization has an empowered ethics office—and, thus, is not ethics washing via a symbolic ethics office.
Improving functioning in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) is a priority therapeutic objective.
Methods
This retrospective post hoc secondary analysis evaluated 108 patients with MDD or BD receiving the antidepressants vortioxetine, ketamine, or infliximab. The analysis aimed to determine if changes in objective or subjective cognitive function mediated the relationship between depression symptom severity and workplace outcomes. Cognitive function was measured by the Perceived Deficits Questionnaire (PDQ-5), the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST), and the Trail Making Test Part B (TMT-B). Depression symptom severity was measured by the Montgomery–Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). Workplace function was measured by the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) work–school item.
Results
When co-varying for BMI, age, and sex, the association between MADRS and SDS work scores was partially mediated by PDQ-5 total scores and DSST total scores, but not DSST error scores and TMT-B time.
Limitations
This study was insufficiently powered to perform sub-group analyses to identify distinctions between MDD and BD populations as well as between antidepressant agents.
Conclusions
These findings suggest that cognitive impairment in adults with MDD and BD is a critical mediator of workplace function and reinforces its importance as a therapeutic target.
To understand healthcare workers’ (HCWs) beliefs and practices toward blood culture (BCx) use.
Design:
Cross-sectional electronic survey and semi-structured interviews.
Setting:
Academic hospitals in the United States.
Participants:
HCWs involved in BCx ordering and collection in adult intensive care units (ICU) and wards.
Methods:
We administered an anonymous electronic survey to HCWs and conducted semi-structured interviews with unit staff and quality improvement (QI) leaders in these institutions to understand their perspectives regarding BCx stewardship between February and November 2023.
Results:
Of 314 HCWs who responded to the survey, most (67.4%) were physicians and were involved in BCx ordering (82.3%). Most survey respondents reported that clinicians had a low threshold to culture patients for fever (84.4%) and agreed they could safely reduce the number of BCx obtained in their units (65%). However, only half of them believed BCx was overused. Although most made BCx decisions as a team (74.1%), a minority reported these team discussions occurred daily (42.4%). A third of respondents reported not usually collecting the correct volume per BCx bottle, half were unaware of the improved sensitivity of 2 BCx sets, and most were unsure of the nationally recommended BCx contamination threshold (87.5%). Knowledge regarding the utility of BCx for common infections was limited.
Conclusions:
HCWs’ understanding of best collection practices and yield of BCx was limited.
Children’s neural responses to emotions may play a role in the intergenerational transmission of anxiety. In a prospective longitudinal study of a community sample of N = 464 mother–child dyads, we examined relations among maternal anxiety symptoms when children were infants and age 5 years, child neural responses to emotional faces (angry, fearful, happy) at age 3 years, and child internalizing symptoms at age 5 years. Path analyses tested whether amplitudes of event-related potential (ERP) components selected a priori (N290, Nc, P400) (a) mediated associations between maternal anxiety symptoms in infancy and child internalizing symptoms at 5 years and/or (b) moderated associations between maternal anxiety symptoms at 5 years and child internalizing symptoms at 5 years. Mediating effects were not observed for any of the ERP measures. Nc and P400 amplitudes to angry faces and Nc amplitude to happy faces moderated the effect of maternal anxiety at 5 years on child internalizing symptoms at 5 years. Effects were not related to maternal depressive symptoms. Differential sex effects were not observed. The findings suggest that larger neural responses to emotional faces may represent a biological risk factor that amplifies vulnerability to the development of internalizing symptomatology in young children exposed to maternal anxiety.

Nontraumatic aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) accounts for 5% of all strokes and carries an exceptionally high disease-specific burden: half of patients with aSAH are younger than 55 years, one-third die within the initial days to weeks after ictus, and most survivors have long-term disability or cognitive impairment.[1] For those who survive, there are both short- and long-term consequences that can significantly reduce quality of life. In addition, aSAH can lead to loss of many years of productive life in survivors. Modifiable risk factors for aSAH include hypertension, smoking, and excessive alcohol intake.[2] The global decrease in aSAH incidence has paralleled a decrease in mean blood pressure and smoking prevalence.[3]
Penicillin allergy delabeling may benefit antimicrobial stewardship (AS). Cost of initial penicillin treatments following risk-stratified inpatient delabeling were compared to two hypothetical treatment regimens if delabeling had not occurred: (1) AS-guided and (2) Common Treatment. Penicillin allergy delabeling improved antimicrobial spectrum index, was cost-neutral, and averted unnecessary penicillin desensitizations.
Neuropsychiatric symptoms are common after traumatic brain injury (TBI) and often resolve within 3 months post-injury. However, the degree to which individual patients follow this course is unknown. We characterized trajectories of neuropsychiatric symptoms over 12 months post-TBI. We hypothesized that a substantial proportion of individuals would display trajectories distinct from the group-average course, with some exhibiting less favorable courses.
Methods
Participants were level 1 trauma center patients with TBI (n = 1943), orthopedic trauma controls (n = 257), and non-injured friend controls (n = 300). Trajectories of six symptom dimensions (Depression, Anxiety, Fear, Sleep, Physical, and Pain) were identified using growth mixture modeling from 2 weeks to 12 months post-injury.
Results
Depression, Anxiety, Fear, and Physical symptoms displayed three trajectories: Stable-Low (86.2–88.6%), Worsening (5.6–10.9%), and Improving (2.6–6.4%). Among symptomatic trajectories (Worsening, Improving), lower-severity TBI was associated with higher prevalence of elevated symptoms at 2 weeks that steadily resolved over 12 months compared to all other groups, whereas higher-severity TBI was associated with higher prevalence of symptoms that gradually worsened from 3–12 months. Sleep and Pain displayed more variable recovery courses, and the most common trajectory entailed an average level of problems that remained stable over time (Stable-Average; 46.7–82.6%). Symptomatic Sleep and Pain trajectories (Stable-Average, Improving) were more common in traumatically injured groups.
Conclusions
Findings illustrate the nature and rates of distinct neuropsychiatric symptom trajectories and their relationship to traumatic injuries. Providers may use these results as a referent for gauging typical v. atypical recovery in the first 12 months post-injury.
To better understand how the public defines ‘healthy’ foods and to determine whether the public considers sustainability, implicitly and explicitly, in the context of healthy eating.
Design:
We conducted a content analysis of public comments submitted to the US FDA in 2016 and 2017 in response to an invitation for feedback on use of the term ‘healthy’ on food labels. The analysis explored the ways in which commenters’ definitions of ‘healthy’ aligned with the 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and whether their definitions considered sustainability.

All 1125 unique comments from individuals and organisations.
Results:
Commenters’ definitions of ‘healthy’ generally mirrored the recommendations that the Dietary Guidelines for Americans put forth to promote a ‘healthy eating pattern’. Commenters emphasised the healthfulness of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, fish and other minimally processed foods and the need to limit added sugars, sodium, saturated and trans fats and other ingredients sometimes added during processing. One-third of comments (n 374) incorporated at least one dimension of sustainability, mainly the environmental dimension. Commenters who mentioned environmental considerations primarily expressed concerns about synthetic chemicals and genetic modification. Less than 20 % of comments discussed social or economic dimensions of sustainability, and less than 3 % of comments (n 30) used the word ‘sustainability’ explicitly.
Conclusions:
This novel analysis provides new information about the public’s perceptions of ‘healthy’ foods relative to nutrition and sustainability considerations. The findings can be used to advance policy discussions regarding nutrition labelling and guidance.
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Fluid boluses are administered to hypotensive, critically ill children but may not reverse hypotension, leading to delay of vasoactive infusion, end-organ damage, and mortality. We hypothesize that a machine learning-based model will predict which children will have sustained response to fluid bolus. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: We will conduct a single-center retrospective observational cohort study of hypotensive critically ill children who received intravenous isotonic fluid of at least 10 ml/kg within 72 hours of pediatric intensive care unit admission between 2013 and 2023. We will extract physiologic variables from stored bedside monitors data and clinical variables from the EHR. Fluid responsive (FR) will be defined as a MAP increase by 310%. We will construct elastic net, random forest, and a long short-term memory models to predict FR. We will compare complicated course (multiple organ dysfunction on day 7 or death by day 28) between: 1) FRs and non-FRs, 2) predicted FRs and non-FRs, 3), FRs and non-FRs stratified by race/ethnicity, and 4) FRs and non-FRs stratified by sex as a biologic variable. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: We anticipate approximately 800 critically ill children will receive 2,000 intravenous isotonic fluid boluses, with a 60% rate of FR. We anticipate being able to complete all three models. We hypothesize that the model with the best performance will be the long short-term memory model and the easiest to interpret will be the tree-based random forest model. We hypothesize non-FRs will have a higher complicated course than FRs and that predicted non-FRs will have a higher rate of complicated course than FRs. Based on previous adult studies, we hypothesize that there will be a higher rate of complicated course in patients of black race and/or Hispanic ethnicity when compared to non-Hispanic white patients. We also hypothesize that there will be no difference in complicated course when comparing sex as a biologic variable. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: We have a critical need for easily-deployed, real-time prediction of fluid response to personalize and improve resuscitation for children in shock. We anticipate the clinical application of such a model will decrease time with hypotension for critically ill children, leading to decreased morbidity and mortality.
Male rectal and anal cancer patients demonstrate high rates of sexual dysfunction. This pilot randomized controlled trial tested a psychoeducational intervention designed to improve psychosexual adjustment.
Methods
Rectal or anal cancer patients were randomized to a Sexual Health Intervention for Men (intervention) or to a referral and information control (control). The intervention included control activities plus 4 sexual health intervention sessions every 4–6 weeks and 3 brief telephone calls timed between these sessions. Assessments were completed pre-intervention (baseline) and 3 months (follow-up 1) and 8 months (follow-up 2) post-intervention. Differences were assessed with statistical significance and Cohen’s d effect sizes (d = 0.2, small effect; d = 0.5, moderate effect; d = 0.8, large effect).
Results
Ninety subjects enrolled. Forty-three participants completed at least 1 follow-up assessment (intervention, n = 14; control n = 29). At follow-up 1, men in intervention, compared to control, improved on all domains of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) (p < 0.001 to p < 0.05) and demonstrated large effects (d = 0.8 to d = 1.5). Similarly, at follow-up 2, changes in all domains of the IIEF except the orgasm domain were either statistically significant or marginally statistically significant (p = 0.01 to p = 0.08) and demonstrated moderate to large treatment effects for intervention versus control (d = 0.5 to d = 0.8). Men in the intervention, compared to control, demonstrated decreased sexual bother at follow-up 1 (p = 0.009, d = 1.1), while Self-Esteem and Relationship (SEAR) total scores and the SEAR sexual relationship subscale demonstrated moderate increases for intervention versus control (d = 0.4 to d = 0.6).
Significance of results
This study provides initial evidence for combining a psychoeducational intervention with medical interventions to address sexual dysfunction following rectal and anal cancer. Trials register number: NCT00712751 (date of registration: 7/10/2008).
Clinical research professionals (CRPs) are essential contributors to clinical and translational research endeavors, encompassing roles such as research nurses, research coordinators, data managers, and regulatory affairs specialists. This paper reports on the implementation of a novel training program for the CRPs, the Co-mentoring Circles Program, developed by the University of Florida Health Clinical Research Professionals Consortium, and proposes an initial logic model of CRP workforce development informed by the observations, participant feedback, and the established Translational Workforce Logic Model. The co-mentoring program was delivered through an online didactic curriculum and bi-monthly meetings over nine months, from January to September 2022. The formative evaluation identified the factors that support CRP workforce development through knowledge acquisition and professional relationship building. Finally, this paper proposes a logic model of CRP workforce development, including financial and human inputs, didactic and co-mentoring activities, workforce outputs, outputs related to workforce and clinical research study progress, and resulting impacts of increased national capacity for translational research and increased rate of research translation.
The stria terminalis (ST) is a white matter tract with connections to limbic and autonomic brain structures that is implicated in affective functioning. Recent works suggests that ST functional integrity and connectivity is associated with faster responses to emotional cues (Dzafic et al., 2019) and may be influenced by environmental factors including socioeconomic status (SES) and childhood adversity (Banihashemi et al., 2020). The role of the ST in the experience of more daily affective experiences, such as depressive symptoms, remains unexplored. Therefore, the present study examined the role of the ST and SES, as assessed by household income, in the relationship between age and depressive symptoms in typically developing children and adolescents.
Participants and Methods:
Participants include 64 typically developing children and adolescents age 8-21 (Mage=13.27, SD=3.15) who participated in an ongoing study of development of neurocognitive and social-cognitive skills. Participants completed imaging on a 3Tesla MR Siemens PRISMA scanner. Tractography was executed via ENIGMA tract-based spatial statistics to quantify WM integrity and provided values for mean fractional anisotropy (mFA) of the ST. Depressive symptoms were measured with the Behavior Assessment Scale for Children-Third Edition (BASC-3) parent report scale, and annual family income was obtained per parent report. Mediation and moderation analyses were conducted using Process version 4.1 (Hayes, 2022) in SPSS version 28. As depression symptoms are often higher in early adolescence than later, we examined the indirect effect of age on depressive symptoms through ST mFA and evaluated this relationship at different levels of family income.
Results:
Age was associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms (b=-.98, t=-2.18, p<.05), whereas greater right ST mFA was associated with higher levels of depressive symptoms (b=42.05, t=2.50, p<.05). Right ST mFA explained significant variance in the relationship between age and parent-reported depression (ab=.13, 95% CI [.02, .29]). The conditional indirect effect of family income was significant for children with annual family incomes between 25-50k (effect=.16, 95% CI [.01, .38]) and 75-100k (effect=.13, 95% CI [.001, .31]), but not for 100k+ (effect=.11, 95% CI [-.05, .33]).
Conclusions:
The present study revealed a significant, positive relationship between white matter integrity in the right ST and parent-reported depressive symptoms in healthy children and young adults. Finding extend on prior work implicating the ST in threat responsivity (Dzafic et al., 2019). Moreover,results suggest the role of the ST in the relationship between age and depression depends on level of family income, such that ST mFA explains more variance at lower income levels, and is no longer significant for children from families with income greater than 100k. These findings support the notion that environmental stressors (such as lower family income) may strengthen ST pathways via activity-dependent plasticity and repeated, coordinated activation (Rinaman et al., 2011). Future studies should examine these brain-behavior associations, as they may replicate in a larger sample, with more nuanced indicators of environmental stress.
The increasing complexity of social stress may be especially threatening to mental health during childhood and adolescence. One's skills in effectively coping with this stress may contribute to symptoms of pediatric anxiety and depression, a growing, significant, and pervasive public health concern. In addition to strategic skills, individual differences in coping may reflect differences in brain structure, including the white matter pathways that integrate frontal lobe networks with those involved in social functioning. Identifying the neurological substrates underlying anxiety and depression is an important way to delineate mechanisms underlying development of these disorders. Deterministic automated-fiber quantification (AFQ) is a technique that removes potential error from manual tracking of white matter, segregating tracts into distinct nodes—diminishing the effect of crossing fibers—and quantifying the number of fibers in a tract, allowing for assessment of connectivity across regions. Collectively, this investigation aims to quantify the interplay between anxiety, depression, coping with social stress, and white matter microstructure in children and adolescents.
Participants and Methods:
Ninety-two healthy children and adolescents (8-17 years old; n=53 female, Mage=12.96; n=39 male, Mage=12.31) and a parent rated symptoms of anxiety and depression using the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC-III). Coping and stress reactivity were assessed using the Responses to Stress Questionnaire, Social Stress version. Children and adolescents also completed 64-direction DTI in a Siemens 3T Prisma scanner. White matter microstructure was quantified using AFQ; Fractional anisotropy (FA) values were extracted for 18 tracts, comprised of 100 nodes each.
Results:
Mean levels of parent- and self-reported anxiety and depression fell within the normative range, and children reported mild- to moderate social stress. Higher levels of social stress were associated with increased parent reported anxiety (r=.294, p=.002) and parent- and self-reported depression (r=.481, p<.001; r=.211, p=.034, respectively). Anxiety and depression were not significantly related to white matter microstructure; however, several specific links with coping were noted. Use of secondary control coping (e.g., cognitive restructuring) was associated with higher FA of the bilateral inferior fronto-occipital fasciculi (left IFOF r=.228, p=.027; right IFOF r=.299, p=.003) and left inferior longitudinal fasciculus (r=.269, p=.009); use of primary control coping (e.g., problem solving) was associated with higher FA of the bilateral uncinate fasciculi (left UF r=.216, p=.036; right UF r=.207, p=.045). Furthermore, use of primary and secondary control coping were associated with fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, whereas greater use of disengagement coping (e.g., wishful thinking) was associated with more depressive symptoms.
Conclusions:
These findings highlight links among white matter microstructure in tracts integrating frontal with temporal and occipital regions, and adoption of adaptive (i.e., primary and secondary control) coping responses. This may suggest that strong connections between brain regions supports more of a modulatory than a neglecting coping strategy. Finding also replicate extant literature on the ties between coping style and psychosocial distress. Given that coping responses are amenable to intervention, capitalizing on these brain-behavior links during ongoing neuromaturation is worthy of future research, with a goal of reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression via the brain's support of adaptive coping.
