This study analyses the current literature to evaluate the effectiveness of dabrafenib and trametinib in the multi-modal treatment of anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC).
Method
A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature were undertaken. The primary endpoint measured was overall response rate (ORR) defined by the RECIST v1.1 guidelines. Secondary endpoints were 12-month overall survival (OS), median OS and progression-free survival (PFS).
Results
Of 656 identified reports, 8 studies were included which featured 95 patients (median age 68.5 years, 46 per cent male). Median follow-up period was 11.8 months with a 12-month OS of 51 per cent. Median OS was 10.4 months. Progression-free survival (PFS) was 6.5 months. The ORR was 71 per cent. A total of 65 patients exhibited a partial or complete response in radiological tumour size. Side effects compared favourably to other kinase inhibitors.
Conclusion
Dabrafenib and trametinib exhibit a promising tumour response with a tolerable side profile. BRAF/MEK inhibitors continue to provide robust responses in BRAF-mutated ATC. The heterogeneity and lack of controls in included studies limits the confidence in the conclusions drawn.
One in eight children experience early life stress (ELS), which increases risk for psychopathology. ELS, particularly neglect, has been associated with reduced responsivity to reward. However, little work has investigated the computational specifics of this disrupted reward response – particularly with respect to the neural response to Reward Prediction Errors (RPE) – a critical signal for successful instrumental learning – and the extent to which they are augmented to novel stimuli. The goal of the current study was to investigate the associations of abuse and neglect, and neural representation of RPE to novel and non-novel stimuli.
Methods
One hundred and seventy-eight participants (aged 10–18, M = 14.9, s.d. = 2.38) engaged in the Novelty task while undergoing functional magnetic resonance imaging. In this task, participants learn to choose novel or non-novel stimuli to win monetary rewards varying from $0 to $0.30 per trial. Levels of abuse and neglect were measured using the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire.
Results
Adolescents exposed to high levels of neglect showed reduced RPE-modulated blood oxygenation level dependent response within medial and lateral frontal cortices particularly when exploring novel stimuli (p < 0.05, corrected for multiple comparisons) relative to adolescents exposed to lower levels of neglect.
Conclusions
These data expand on previous work by indicating that neglect, but not abuse, is associated with impairments in neural RPE representation within medial and lateral frontal cortices. However, there was no association between neglect and behavioral impairments on the Novelty task, suggesting that these neural differences do not necessarily translate into behavioral differences within the context of the Novelty task.
Bio-Futures for Transplanetary Habitats (BFfTH) is a Special Interest Group within the Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment that aims to explore and enable interdisciplinary research on transplanetary habitats and habitats within extreme environments through an emphasis on the biosocial and biotechnological relations. BFfTH organized the online and onsite networking symposium BFfTH to examine how emerging biotechnologies, living materials, and more-than-human life can be implemented in habitat design and mission planning. The two-day symposium aimed to serve as a catalyst in establishing an international network and to support the development of novel methodologies to move beyond discipline-specific approaches. The symposium consisted of five sessions, including Mycelium for Mars and Novel Biotechnologies for Space Habitats. This opinion paper presents key outcomes and trends from these sessions, a moderated panel, and informal discussions. The identified research trends explored the use of biotechnology and biodesign to enhance safety, sustainability, habitability, reliability, crew efficiency, productivity, and comfort in extreme environments on Earth and off-world. Beyond design and engineering, the symposium also examined sociotechnical imaginaries, focusing on desired experiences and characteristics of life and technology in transplanetary futures. Some of the specific topics included innovative material-driven processes for transplanetary habitat design, socio-political and ethical implications, and technology transfer for sustainable living on Earth. The outcomes emphasize the necessity for advancing biosocial and biotechnological research from an interdisciplinary perspective in order to ethically and meaningfully enable transplanetary futures. Such a focus not only addresses future off-world challenges but also contributes to immediate ecological and architectural innovations, promoting a symbiotic relationship between space exploration and sustainability on Earth.
Spray formed by a myriad of secondary droplets generated by the impact of raindrops on a deep-water pool is studied with a laboratory rain facility. Experiments are performed with two rain rates and raindrops fall on the water surface at a nearly constant velocity. The secondary droplets at various heights above the pool's water surface are recorded with a cinematic digital in-line holographic technique that consists of a high-speed camera, a pulsed Nd:YLF laser and associated optics. The experimental results show that in the heat-map scatter plots of radius versus velocity near the water surface of the pool, the droplets are distributed into three regions, corresponding to distinct physical mechanisms of droplet generation. It is found that the diameter distribution of the droplets in the rain field changes with height above the pool's water surfaces. Both numerical simulation and experimental data reveal that the liquid water content, due to the presence of secondary droplets, in the atmospheric surface layer decreases exponentially with increasing height.
While vaccine hesitancy has become a salient issue, few studies have examined the influence of international collaboration and vaccine developments on people's attitudes towards vaccines. The international collaboration especially with China has been an integral part of the field of influenza. In recent years, attitudes towards vaccines and China are both heavily politicized in the USA with a deepening partisan divide. Republicans are more likely than Democrats to be vaccine hesitant, and they are also more likely to view China negatively. At the same time, the USA has economic, security, and medical collaboration with Japan and most Americans display a very positive view of the country. Thus, does a more international collaboration or more country-specific vaccine development have an influence on US vaccine hesitancy? This study conducts a survey-embedded question-wording experiment to assess the roles of US–China and US–Japan collaboration and partisanship in people's willingness to get the flu vaccine. Despite the previously successful and effective US–China collaboration, this study finds that respondents especially Republicans are much less likely to receive a US–China flu vaccine than a US–Japan or USA alone. Interestingly, both Democrats and Republicans are as willing to receive a US–Japan vaccine as USA alone. These results point to critical roles of partisanship and international relations.
This work characterizes the vanishing of the Fourier coefficients of all CM (Complex Multiplication) eta quotients. As consequences, we recover Serre’s characterization about that of $\eta(12z)^{2}$ and recent results of Chang on the pth coefficients of $\eta(4z)^{6}$ and $\eta(6z)^{4}$. Moreover, we generalize the results on the cases of weight 1 to the setting of binary quadratic forms.
Adolescent substance use, externalizing and attention problems, and early life stress (ELS) commonly co-occur. These psychopathologies show overlapping neural dysfunction in the form of reduced recruitment of reward processing neuro-circuitries. However, it is unclear to what extent these psychopathologies show common v. different neural dysfunctions as a function of symptom profiles, as no studies have directly compared neural dysfunctions associated with each of these psychopathologies to each other.
Methods
In study 1, a latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted in a sample of 266 adolescents (aged 13–18, 41.7% female, 58.3% male) from a residential youth care facility and the surrounding community to investigate substance use, externalizing and attention problems, and ELS psychopathologies and their co-presentation. In study 2, we examined a subsample of 174 participants who completed the Passive Avoidance learning task during functional magnetic resonance imaging to examine differential and/or common reward processing neuro-circuitry dysfunctions associated with symptom profiles based on these co-presentations.
Results
In study 1, LPA identified profiles of substance use plus rule-breaking behaviors, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and ELS. In study 2, the substance use/rule-breaking profile was associated with reduced recruitment of reward processing and attentional neuro-circuitries during the Passive Avoidance task (p < 0.05, corrected for multiple comparisons).
Conclusions
Findings indicate that there is reduced responsivity of striato-cortical regions when receiving outcomes on an instrumental learning task within a profile of adolescents with substance use and rule-breaking behaviors. Mitigating reward processing dysfunction specifically may represent a potential intervention target for substance-use psychopathologies accompanied by rule-breaking behaviors.
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Our long-term goal is to understand how both genetic and environmental (GxE) factors contribute to neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) so that we may potentially intervene in disease pathogenesis and design therapies to address functional deficiencies. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Our studies use a novel GxE model to determine how cephalosporin antibiotic exposure alters the gut microbiome, hippocampal neurogenesis, and behavior in the genetically vulnerable 16p11.2 microdeletion (16pDel) mouse. This mouse models one of the most frequently observed genetic risk variants implicated in NDDs, including ~1% of autism diagnoses. Wildtype and 16pDel littermates were exposed to saline or the cephalosporin, cefdinir, from postnatal days 5-9. We quantified changes in gut microbiota composition using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and utilized immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, and bulk RNA gene sequencing to assess changes in hippocampal neurogenesis. An additional cohort of saline or cefdinir-exposed mice were subjected to a behavioral battery to assess changes in sociability and anxiety. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: We leveraged the next-generation microbiome bioinformatics platform, Quantitative Insights Into Microbial Ecology 2 (QIIME2) to analyze 16S rRNA gene sequencing datasets of P13 cecal samples from saline- and cefdinir-exposed mice. We found successful perturbations to the gut microbiome following early life cefdinir exposure. Further, we found a robust 50% reduction in hippocampal cyclin E protein in cefdinir-exposed 16pDel male mice, which was replicated in a second independent experiment. This reduction extended to the S-phase cell entry and general stem cell population, quantified by EdU+ and Ki67+ cell numbers, respectively. Lastly, in our first cohort of mice for behavioral studies, we found reduced sociability and increased anxiety-like behaviors in cefdinir-exposed mice. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: The findings from this GxE model will provide mechanistic insights into the causes of NDDs; they may inform practice guidelines so as to reduce this environmental exposure; and may suggest interventions like probiotics for those at risk in order to overcome altered gut microbiome composition and restore hippocampal neurogenesis defects.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder that is highly comorbid with psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is common in psychiatric disorders and OSA. In participants with OSA, EDS can persist despite use of positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy. This analysis of real-world data aimed to describe EDS and its relationship with PAP use in participants with and without depression.
Methods
US residents (≥18 years of age, self-reported physician diagnosis of OSA [from 1/1/2015 to 3/31/2020]) completed a survey in Evidation Health’s Achievement app assessing subjective levels of sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale [ESS]) and self-reported PAP usage, categorized as nonuse (no PAP use), nonadherent (<4 h/night or <5 d/wk), intermediate (4-6 h/night, ≥5 d/wk), or highly adherent (≥6 h/night, ≥5 d/wk). ESS score >10 defined EDS. A linear model assessed relationships between PAP use and ESS score. P-values are uncontrolled for multiplicity (nominal).
Results
In total, 2289 participants (EDS, n=972; no EDS, n=1317) completed the survey (50.3% female; 82.5% White; mean±standard deviation [SD] age, 44.8 ± 11.1 years). Anxiety and depression were the most common comorbidities and were more common in participants with EDS (49% and 49%, respectively) than those without EDS (41% and 37%, respectively). Overall, EDS was more common among participants with comorbid depression (49%) than those without (38%), even among highly adherent PAP users (46% vs 30%, respectively). In a linear model (PAP users only), an additional 1 h/night of PAP use was associated with lower ESS scores in the subgroup of participants without depression (n=928; estimate [SE], −0.42 [0.09]; P<0.05), but not in the subgroup with depression (n=661; estimate [SE], −0.15 [0.10]; P>0.05). In a sensitivity analysis that excluded participants using medications that cause sleepiness, PAP use was associated with lower ESS scores regardless of depression status; however, EDS remained more common in participants with comorbid depression (46%) than in those without (36%).
Conclusions
In this real-world population of participants with OSA, those with EDS were more likely to have comorbid anxiety or depression. EDS was more common in participants with comorbid depression than those without, even with highly adherent PAP use. PAP use was associated with lower ESS scores in participants without comorbid depression, but not in those with comorbid depression; the use of medications that cause sleepiness may contribute to but does not fully explain this phenomenon.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a highly prevalent sleep disorder that is often associated with numerous medical and psychiatric comorbidities. Patients with OSA experience a variety of symptoms that can be burdensome and affect their quality of life and satisfaction with care. Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) is a common symptom of OSA, and can persist despite primary airway therapy (e.g., positive airway pressure [PAP]). This analysis aimed to characterize common comorbidities, as well as symptoms present at OSA diagnosis and their burden in a real-world population of participants with OSA.
Methods
US residents (≥18 years of age, self-reported clinician diagnosis of OSA [from 1/1/2015 to 3/31/2020]) completed a survey in Evidation Health’s Achievement app that assessed self-reported sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale [ESS]), self-reported PAP usage, self-reported physician-diagnosed comorbidities, and information on their symptoms at time of OSA diagnosis. Self-reported PAP use was categorized as nonuse (no PAP use), nonadherent (<4 h/night or <5 d/wk), intermediate (4–6 h/night, ≥5 d/wk), or highly adherent (≥6 h/night, ≥5 d/wk). EDS was defined as ESS score >10. All data were summarized descriptively.
Results
In total, 2289 participants completed the survey (50.3% female; 82.5% White; mean ± standard deviation [SD] age, 44.8 ± 11.1 years; mean ± SD age at OSA diagnosis, 40.7 ± 11.4 years; mean ± SD body mass index, 35.4 ± 8.7 kg/m2); 42.5% had EDS. Among the total population, 30.6% were PAP non-users, 6.7% were nonadherent, 9.8% were intermediate adherent, and 52.9% were highly adherent. Across the study population, the most common self-reported physician-diagnosed comorbidities were anxiety (44%) and depression (42%) followed by hypertension (39%), dyslipidemia (26%), and asthma (21%). Among the symptoms participants reported having had at the time of OSA diagnosis, the most common were EDS (79%), fatigue (79%), snoring (75%), and awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat (63%). Concentration/Memory problems (48%) and mood changes (46%) were also common. In the overall population, the symptoms present at the time of OSA diagnosis that were most likely to be highly burdensome were fatigue (53%), EDS (46%), snoring (35%), difficulty concentrating/memory issues (31%), and mood changes (25%).
Conclusions
These real-world survey data identify anxiety and depression as the most frequently reported comorbidities in a population of participants with OSA, each affecting over 40% of participants. In addition to classic OSA symptoms (e.g., EDS, fatigue, snoring, and awakening with dry mouth/sore throat), concentration/memory problems and mood changes were also common at the time of OSA diagnosis and were among the presenting symptoms most frequently reported as highly burdensome, along with fatigue, EDS, and snoring.
We report VLBI monitoring observations of the 22 GHz H2O masers toward the Mira variable BX Cam. Data from 37 epochs spanning ∼3 stellar pulsation periods were obtained between May 2018 and June 2021 with a time interval of 3–4 weeks. In particular, the VERA dual-beam system was used to measure the kinematics and parallaxes of the H2O maser features. The obtained parallax, 1.79±0.08 mas, is consistent with Gaia EDR3 and previous VLBI measurements. The position of the central star was estimated relied on Gaia EDR3 data and the center position of the 43 GHz SiO maser ring imaged with KVN. Analysis of the 3D maser kinematics revealed an expanding circumstellar envelope with a velocity of 13±4 km s−1 and significant spatial and velocity asymmetries. The H2O maser animation achieved by our dense monitoring program manifests the propagation of shock waves in the circumstellar envelope of BX Cam.
Two new eurypterids, a pterygotid Pterygotus wanggaii n. sp. and an adelophthalmoid Parahughmilleria fuea n. sp., are described from the Early Devonian (Lochkovian) Xiaxishancun Formation of Yunnan province, southwest China. This discovery represents the first record of Parahughmilleria from Gondwana and the first Pterygotus from China. Pterygotus wanggaii n. sp. is characterized by the first primary denticles (d1,d1′) being located on the middle part of the cheliceral ramus and third primary denticles (d3,d3′) elongate, even longer than the first primary denticles. Parahughmilleria fuea n. sp. is differentiated by being a large Parahughmilleria with strongly developed lateral epimera from tergites T4 to T12. These discoveries not only extend the geographical extent of the genera Pterygotus and Parahughmilleria from Euramerica to SW China, but also give insight into the similarity of ecosystem structures across the Early Devonian world. In addition, based on previous studies, the new discoveries further support the hypothesis that eurypterids underwent a crisis during the Silurian–Devonian boundary interval.
Earth-contact mechanism (ECM), a type of mechanism to keep the system in contact with the earth and to move with the terrain changes. This paper uses the virtual equivalent parallel mechanism (VEPM) to convert the terrain data into the kinematical variables of the moving platform in the VEPM, and further analyzes the performance of the VEPM at each terrain point. Then, the comprehensive performance of the VEPM is chosen as the optimization goal, and a task-oriented dimensional optimization approach combined with the particle swarm algorithm and the neural network algorithm is proposed. This paper conducted a comparative experiment to verify the superiority of the new approach in optimizing the ECM’s comprehensive performance, whose performance analysis also can be applied into the layout design of the ECM. This paper proposed an analysis method to construct the ECM’s performance map based on the digital terrain map, which helps the control system and operator to make the optimal control decision.
Cap-shaped skeletal fossils are the earliest undisputed body fossils of mollusks appearing in the basal Cambrian. A study on the morphometry of cap-shaped fossils from the Nanjiang area (North Sichuan, China) is undertaken to understand the origin and evolution of the early mollusks. The distribution of these fossil cap-shaped mollusks indicates a stepwise increase in their diversity during the early Cambrian. Maikhanella Zhegallo in Voronin et al., 1982 co-occuring with the spinose sclerites of siphogonuchitids, is regarded as the earliest scleritized mollusk. It is followed by other maikhanellids, e.g., Purella Missarzhevsky, 1974 and Yunnanopleura Yu, 1987, which co-occur with the earliest univalved helcionellids, e.g., Igorella Missarzhevsky in Rozanov et al., 1969. Cluster analysis of their morphometric characteristics shows that the Maikhanella group is similar to the Purella and Yunnanopleura groups, but is less comparable with univalved helcionellids. The maikhanellids are interpreted as representatives of the stem group Aculifera, although it remains uncertain if one or two larger cap-shaped shell plates were present on the elongate slug-like body, comparable to those of Halkieria Poulsen, 1967 or Orthrozanclus Conway Morris and Caron, 2007. Maikhanellids are characterized by the prominent protrusions or scales on the cap-shaped shell plates arranged in a concentric pattern around the shell apex. Evolutionarily, the protrusions or scales are reduced in younger strata, whereas subsequently a typically concentric ornament developed, the cap-shaped shell plates developed higher profiles, and the apical region became increasingly bare of scales. Meanwhile, the cap-shaped shell plates gradually evolved into a helcionellid-like appearance with an anteroposteriorly inclined apex. The morphological evolution of the earliest sclerotized mollusks reflects biotic evolution and environmental adaption among the stem-group mollusks during the early Cambrian.
Two new eurypterids, a pterygotid Erettopterus qujingensis n. sp., and a slimoniid, Slimonia sp., are described from the upper Silurian (Pridolian) Yulongsi Formation of Yunnan Province, China. Erettopterus qujingensis n. sp. is characterized by several inversely curved ramus denticles and a metastoma with a deep notch in the center. The discovery not only extends the geographic extent of the genus Erettopterus and Slimonia from Euramerica to southwest China, but also gives insight into the similarity of ecosystem structures across the Silurian world.
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now the most common cause of chronic liver disease, worldwide. The molecular pathogenesis of NAFLD is complex, involving numerous signalling molecules, including microRNAs (miRNAs). Dysregulation of miRNA expression is associated with hepatic inflammation, fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Although miRNAs are also critical to the cellular response to vitamin D, mediating regulation of the vitamin D receptor and vitamin D’s anti-cancer effects, the role of vitamin-D-regulated miRNAs in NAFLD pathogenesis has been relatively unexplored. Therefore, this review aims to critically assess the evidence for a potential subset of miRNAs that are both dysregulated in NAFLD and modulated by vitamin D. Comprehensive review of eighty-nine human studies identified twenty-five miRNAs found dysregulated in more than one NAFLD study. In contrast, only seventeen studies, including a protocol for a trial in NAFLD, had examined miRNAs in relation to vitamin D status, response to supplementation, or vitamin D in the context of the liver. This paper summarises these data and reviews the biological roles of six miRNAs (miR-21, miR-30, miR-34, miR-122, miR-146, miR-200) found dysregulated in multiple independent NAFLD studies. While modulation of miRNAs by vitamin D has been understudied, integration of the data suggests seven vitamin-D-modulated miRNAs (miR-27, miR-125, miR-155, miR-192, miR-223, miR-375, miR-378) potentially relevant to NAFLD pathogenesis. Our summary tables provide a significant resource to underpin future hypothesis-driven research, and we conclude that the measurement of serum and hepatic miRNAs in response to vitamin D supplementation in larger trials is warranted.
Conduct disorder (CD) has been associated with dysfunction in reinforcement-based decision-making. Two forms of affective traits that reflect the components of CD severity are callous-unemotional (CU; reduced guilt/empathy) traits and irritability. The form of the reinforcement-based decision-making dysfunction with respect to CD and CU traits remains debated and has not been examined with respect to irritability in cases with CD. The goals of the current study were to determine the extent of dysfunction in differential (reward v. punishment) responsiveness in CD, and CU traits and irritability in participants with CD.
Methods
The study involved 178 adolescents [typically developing (TD; N = 77) and cases with CD (N = 101)]. Participants were scanned with fMRI during a passive avoidance task that required participants to learn to respond to (i.e. approach) stimuli that engender reward and refrain from responding to (i.e. passively avoid) stimuli that engender punishment.
Results
Adolescents with CD showed reduced differential reward-punishment responsiveness within the striatum relative to TD adolescents. CU traits, but not irritability, were associated with reduced differential reward-punishment responsiveness within the striatum, rostromedial, and lateral frontal cortices.
Conclusions
The results suggest CD is associated with reduced differential reward-punishment responsiveness and the extent of this dysfunction in participants with CD is associated with the severity of CU traits but not irritability.
The degree to which suicide risk aggregates in US families is unknown. The authors aimed to determine the familial risk of suicide in Utah, and tested whether familial risk varies based on the characteristics of the suicides and their relatives.
Methods
A population-based sample of 12 160 suicides from 1904 to 2014 were identified from the Utah Population Database and matched 1:5 to controls based on sex and age using at-risk sampling. All first through third- and fifth-degree relatives of suicide probands and controls were identified (N = 13 480 122). The familial risk of suicide was estimated based on hazard ratios (HR) from an unsupervised Cox regression model in a unified framework. Moderation by sex of the proband or relative and age of the proband at time of suicide (<25 v. ⩾25 years) was examined.
Results
Significantly elevated HRs were observed in first- (HR 3.45; 95% CI 3.12–3.82) through fifth-degree relatives (HR 1.07; 95% CI 1.02–1.12) of suicide probands. Among first-degree relatives of female suicide probands, the HR of suicide was 6.99 (95% CI 3.99–12.25) in mothers, 6.39 in sisters (95% CI 3.78–10.82), and 5.65 (95% CI 3.38–9.44) in daughters. The HR in first-degree relatives of suicide probands under 25 years at death was 4.29 (95% CI 3.49–5.26).
Conclusions
Elevated familial suicide risk in relatives of female and younger suicide probands suggests that there are unique risk groups to which prevention efforts should be directed – namely suicidal young adults and women with a strong family history of suicide.

To describe the short-term evolution of cardiac complications and associated risk factors in patients with multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children.
Methods:
Retrospective single-centre study of confirmed multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children treated from 29 March, 2020 to 1 September, 2020. Cardiac complications during the acute phase were defined as decreased systolic function, coronary artery abnormalities, pericardial effusion, or mitral and/or tricuspid valve regurgitation. Patients with or without cardiac complications were compared with chi-square, Fisher’s exact, and Wilcoxon rank sum.
Results:
Thirty-nine children with median (interquartile range) age 7.8 (3.6–12.7) years were included. Nineteen (49%) patients developed cardiac complications including systolic dysfunction (33%), valvular regurgitation (31%), coronary artery abnormalities (18%), and pericardial effusion (5%). At the time of the most recent follow-up, at a median (interquartile range) of 49 (26–61) days, cardiac complications resolved in 16/19 (84%) patients. Two patients had persistent mild systolic dysfunction and one patient had persistent coronary artery abnormality. Children with cardiac complications were more likely to have higher N-terminal B-type natriuretic peptide (p = 0.01), higher white blood cell count (p = 0.01), higher neutrophil count (p = 0.02), severe lymphopenia (p = 0.05), use of milrinone (p = 0.03), and intensive care requirement (p = 0.04).
Conclusion:
Patients with multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children had a high rate of cardiac complications in the acute phase, with associated inflammatory markers. Although cardiac complications resolved in 84% of patients, further long-term studies are needed to assess if the cardiac abnormalities (transient or persistent) are associated with major cardiac events.
