In this paper we study a codimension 3 form of the 1:2 resonance. It was first noted by Arnold [3] that the study of bifurcations of symmetric vector fields under a rotation of order q yields information about Hopf bifurcation for a fixed point of a planar diffeomorphism F with eigenvalues . The map Fq can be identified to arbitrarily high order with the flow map of a symmetric vector field having a double-zero eigenvalue ([3], [4], [10], [23]). The resonance of order 2 (also called 1:2 resonance) considered here is the case of a pair of eigenvalues —1 with a Jordan block of order 2. The diffeomorphism then has normal form around the origin given by [4]:

Totality of a category as introduced by Street and Walters [17] is known to be a strong cocompleteness property (cf. also [21]) which goes far beyond ordinary (small) cocompleteness. It implies compactness in the sense of Isbell [11] and therefore hypercompleteness [7], that is: the existence of limits of all those (not necessarily small) diagrams which are not prevented from having a limit merely from size-considerations with respect to the homsets. In particular, arbitrary intersections of monomorphisms exist in a total category; which is part of Street's [16] characterization of totality and is used in establishing the interrelationship with topoi (cf. also [15]).

Let k be any field, A a central simple k-algebra of degree m (i.e., dimk A = m2). Several methods of constructing the generic splitting fields for A are proposed and Saltman proves that these methods result in almost the same generic splitting field [8, Theorems 4.2 and 4.4]. In fact, the generic splitting field constructed by Roquette [7] is the function field of the Brauer- Severi variety Vm(A) while the generic splitting field constructed by Heuser and Saltman [4 and 8] is the function field of the norm surface W(A). In this paper, to avoid possible confusion about the dimension, we shall call it the norm hypersurface instead of the norm surface.

Pandey and Chaudhary [13] recently developed the theory of Hilbert transform of Schwartz distribution space (DLp)',p > 1 in one dimension using Parseval's types of relations for one dimensional Hilbert transform [17] and noted that their theory coincides with the corresponding theory for the Hilbert transform developed by Schwartz [16] by using the technique of convolution in one dimension.

The corresponding theory for the Hilbert transform in n-dimension is considerably harder and will be successfully accomplished in this paper.

Let Fm be the free Lie algebra of rank m over a field K of characteristic 0 freely generated by the set ﹛x1,… ,xm﹜, m ≧ 2. Cohn [7] proved that the automorphism group Aut Fm of the K-algebra Fm is generated by the following automorphisms: (i) automorphisms which are induced by the action of the general linear group GLm (= GLm(K)) on the subspace of Fm spanned by ﹛x1, … ,xm﹜; (ii) automorphisms of the form x1 → x1 +f(x2,… ,xm),Xk → xk, k ≠ 1, where the polynomial f(x2,…,xm) does not depend on x1.

In [6] we studied the polynomials which are generalizations of the classical (generalized) Laguerre polynomials These polynomials were shown to be orthogonal on the interval [0, ∞) with respect to the inner product where a > — 1,M ≧0 and N ≧0.

The Cauchy functional equations have been studied recently for Schwartz distributions by Koh in [3]. When the solutions are locally integrate functions, the equations reduce to the classical Cauchy equations (see [1]):

(2) f(x+y)=f(x)f(y)

(3) f(xy)=f(x)+f(y)

(4) f(xy)=f(x)f(y).

Earlier efforts to study functional equations in distributions were given by Fenyö [2]for the Hosszu’ equations

by Neagu [4]for the Pompeiu equation

f(x+y+xy)=f(x)+f(y)+f(x)f(y)

and by Swiatak [6].

Frobenius-Rabinowitsch's theorem provides us with a necessary and sufficient condition for the class-number of a complex quadratic field with negative discriminant D to be one in terms of the primality of the values taken by the quadratic polynomial with discriminant Don consecutive integers (See [1], [7]). M. D. Hendy extended Frobenius-Rabinowitsch's result to a necessary and sufficient condition for the class-number of a complex quadratic field with discriminant D to be two in terms of the primality of the values taken by the quadratic polynomials and with discriminant D (see [2], [7]).

We define the cover of an RG-module V to consist of an RG lattice Ṽ and a homomorphism π : Ṽ→ V such that π induces an isomorphism on Ext*RG(M, —) for any RG-lattice M. Here G is a finite group and, for simplicity in this introduction, R is a complete discrete valuation ring of characteristic zero with prime element p and perfect valuation class field. Let pn(G) be the highest power of p that divides |G| and, given an RG-lattice M, let pn(M) be the smallest power of p such that pn(M) idM : M→M factors through a projective lattice: n(M)≦n(G).

There is a body of results for lattices known as “Decomposition Theory” which is aimed at proving certain existence and uniqueness theorems concerning irredundant representations of elements of a compactly generated lattice. The motivation for these results is certainly the quest for sufficient conditions on congruence lattices to insure irredundant subdirect representations of algebras. These theorems usually include some kind of modularity or distribut i v e hypothesis (for uniqueness) and some atomicity hypothesis (for existence); the precise details can be found in [3]. The atomicity condition is usually the hypothesis that the lattice in question is strongly atomic or at least atomic. Now, it is well-known that every algebra has a weakly atomic congruence lattice.
