In this paper, we determine when $\mathop{({\Gamma }_{I} (L))}\nolimits ^{c} $, the complement of the zero divisor graph ${\Gamma }_{I} (L)$ with respect to a semiprime ideal $I$ of a lattice $L$, is connected and also determine its diameter, radius, centre and girth. Further, a form of Beck’s conjecture is proved for ${\Gamma }_{I} (L)$ when $\omega (\mathop{({\Gamma }_{I} (L))}\nolimits ^{c} )\lt \infty $.

In this paper, we prove that, if $N$ is a positive odd number with $r$ distinct prime factors such that $N\mid \sigma (N)$, then $N\lt {2}^{{4}^{r} - {2}^{r} } $ and $N{\mathop{\prod }\nolimits}_{p\mid N} p\lt {2}^{{4}^{r} } $, where $\sigma (N)$ is the sum of all positive divisors of $N$. In particular, these bounds hold if $N$ is an odd perfect number.

A natural number $n$ is called $k$-perfect if $\sigma (n)= kn$. In this paper, we show that for any integers $r\geq 2$ and $k\geq 2$, the number of odd $k$-perfect numbers $n$ with $\omega (n)\leq r$ is bounded by $\left({\lfloor {4}^{r} { \mathop{ \log } \nolimits }_{3} 2\rfloor + r\atop r} \right){ \mathop{ \sum } \nolimits }_{i= 1}^{r} \left({\lfloor kr/ 2\rfloor \atop i} \right)$, which is less than ${4}^{{r}^{2} } $ when $r$ is large enough.

In 2007, Andrews and Paule introduced a new class of combinatorial objects called broken $k$-diamond partitions. Recently, Shishuo Fu generalised the notion of broken $k$-diamond partitions to combinatorial objects which he termed $k$ dots bracelet partitions. Fu denoted the number of $k$ dots bracelet partitions of $n$ by ${\mathfrak{B}}_{k} (n)$ and proved several congruences modulo primes and modulo powers of 2. More recently, Radu and Sellers extended the set of congruences proven by Fu by proving three congruences modulo squares of primes for ${\mathfrak{B}}_{5} (n)$, ${\mathfrak{B}}_{7} (n)$ and ${\mathfrak{B}}_{11} (n)$. In this note, we prove some congruences modulo powers of 2 for ${\mathfrak{B}}_{5} (n)$. For example, we find that for all integers $n\geq 0$, ${\mathfrak{B}}_{5} (16n+ 7)\equiv 0\hspace{0.167em} ({\rm mod} \hspace{0.334em} {2}^{5} )$.

We compute the rings ${H}^{\ast } (N; { \mathbb{F} }_{2} )$ for $N$ a closed $ \mathbb{S} {\mathrm{ol} }^{3} $-manifold, and then determine the Borsuk–Ulam indices $\text{BU} (N, \phi )$ with $\phi \not = 0$ in ${H}^{1} (N; { \mathbb{F} }_{2} )$.

The main result in the earlier paper (by the first author) is improved as follows. The number of odd multiperfect numbers with at most $r$ distinct prime factors is bounded by ${4}^{{r}^{2} } / {2}^{r+ 2} (r- 1)!$.

In this paper, employing a very recent local minimum theorem for differentiable functionals, the existence of at least one nontrivial solution for a class of systems of $n$ second-order Sturm–Liouville equations is established.

All groups considered in this paper are finite. A subgroup $H$ of a group $G$ is called a primitive subgroup if it is a proper subgroup in the intersection of all subgroups of $G$ containing $H$ as a proper subgroup. He et al. [‘A note on primitive subgroups of finite groups’, Commun. Korean Math. Soc. 28(1) (2013), 55–62] proved that every primitive subgroup of $G$ has index a power of a prime if and only if $G/ \Phi (G)$ is a solvable PST-group. Let $\mathfrak{X}$ denote the class of groups $G$ all of whose primitive subgroups have prime power index. It is established here that a group $G$ is a solvable PST-group if and only if every subgroup of $G$ is an $\mathfrak{X}$-group.

A long-standing conjecture asserts that every finite nonabelian $p$-group has a noninner automorphism of order $p$. In this paper the verification of the conjecture is reduced to the case of $p$-groups $G$ satisfying ${ Z}_{2}^{\star } (G)\leq {C}_{G} ({ Z}_{2}^{\star } (G))= \Phi (G)$, where ${ Z}_{2}^{\star } (G)$ is the preimage of ${\Omega }_{1} ({Z}_{2} (G)/ Z(G))$ in $G$. This improves Deaconescu and Silberberg’s reduction of the conjecture: if ${C}_{G} (Z(\Phi (G)))\not = \Phi (G)$, then $G$ has a noninner automorphism of order $p$ leaving the Frattini subgroup of $G$ elementwise fixed [‘Noninner automorphisms of order $p$ of finite $p$-groups’, J. Algebra 250 (2002), 283–287].

The long-standing open problem of finding an upper bound for the Wiener index of a graph in terms of its order and diameter is addressed. Sharp upper bounds are presented for the Wiener index, and the related degree distance and Gutman index, for trees of order $n$ and diameter at most $6$.

We introduce an analogue of the Mertens conjecture for elliptic curves over finite fields. Using a result of Waterhouse, we classify the isogeny classes of elliptic curves for which this conjecture holds in terms of the size of the finite field and the trace of the Frobenius endomorphism acting on the curve.

We consider a recent work of Pascu and Pascu [‘Neighbourhoods of univalent functions’, Bull. Aust. Math. Soc. 83(2) (2011), 210–219] and rectify an error that appears in their work. In addition, we study certain analogous results for sense-preserving harmonic mappings in the unit disc $\vert z\vert \lt 1$. As a corollary to this result, we derive a coefficient condition for a sense-preserving harmonic mapping to be univalent in $\vert z\vert \lt 1$.

We study bounded linear regularity of finite sets of closed subspaces in a Hilbert space. In particular, we construct for each natural number $n\geq 3$ a set of $n$ closed subspaces of ${\ell }^{2} $ which has the bounded linear regularity property, while the bounded linear regularity property does not hold for each one of its nonempty, proper nonsingleton subsets. We also establish a related theorem regarding the bounded regularity property in metric spaces.

We prove a hyperstability result for the Cauchy functional equation $f(x+ y)= f(x)+ f(y)$, which complements some earlier stability outcomes of J. M. Rassias. As a consequence, we obtain the slightly surprising corollary that for every function $f$, mapping a normed space ${E}_{1} $ into a normed space ${E}_{2} $, and for all real numbers $r, s$ with $r+ s\gt 0$ one of the following two conditions must be valid:

In the 2006 edition of the Kourovka Notebook, Berkovich poses the following problem (Problem 16.13): Let $p$ be a prime and $P$ be a finite $p$-group. Can $P$ have every maximal subgroup special? We show that the structure of such groups is very restricted, but for all primes there are groups of arbitrarily large size with this property.

A group $G$ is said to be an $FC$-group if each element of $G$ has only finitely many conjugates, and $G$ is minimal non$FC$ if all its proper subgroups have the property $FC$ but $G$ is not an $FC$-group. It is an open question whether there exists a group of infinite rank which is minimal non$FC$. We consider here groups of infinite rank in which all proper subgroups of infinite rank are $FC$, and prove that in most cases such groups are either $FC$-groups or minimal non$FC$.

In this paper, we study the properties of $k$-plurisubharmonic functions defined on domains in ${ \mathbb{C} }^{n} $. By the monotonicity formula, we give an alternative proof of the weak continuity of complex $k$-Hessian operators with respect to local uniform convergence.

For a Lie algebra $L$ over an algebraically closed field $F$ of nonzero characteristic, every finite dimensional $L$-module can be decomposed into a direct sum of submodules such that all composition factors of a summand have the same character. Using the concept of a character cluster, this result is generalised to fields which are not algebraically closed. Also, it is shown that if the soluble Lie algebra $L$ is in the saturated formation $\mathfrak{F}$ and if $V, W$ are irreducible $L$-modules with the same cluster and the $p$-operation vanishes on the centre of the $p$-envelope used, then $V, W$ are either both $\mathfrak{F}$-central or both $\mathfrak{F}$-eccentric. Clusters are used to generalise the construction of induced modules.

In this paper, we construct several new permutation polynomials over finite fields. First, using the linearised polynomials, we construct the permutation polynomial of the form ${ \mathop{\sum }\nolimits}_{i= 1}^{k} ({L}_{i} (x)+ {\gamma }_{i} ){h}_{i} (B(x))$ over ${\mathbf{F} }_{{q}^{m} } $, where ${L}_{i} (x)$ and $B(x)$ are linearised polynomials. This extends a theorem of Coulter, Henderson and Matthews. Consequently, we generalise a result of Marcos by constructing permutation polynomials of the forms $xh({\lambda }_{j} (x))$ and $xh({\mu }_{j} (x))$, where ${\lambda }_{j} (x)$ is the $j$th elementary symmetric polynomial of $x, {x}^{q} , \ldots , {x}^{{q}^{m- 1} } $ and ${\mu }_{j} (x)= {\mathrm{Tr} }_{{\mathbf{F} }_{{q}^{m} } / {\mathbf{F} }_{q} } ({x}^{j} )$. This answers an open problem raised by Zieve in 2010. Finally, by using the linear translator, we construct the permutation polynomial of the form ${L}_{1} (x)+ {L}_{2} (\gamma )h(f(x))$ over ${\mathbf{F} }_{{q}^{m} } $, which extends a result of Kyureghyan.
