Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p$, $\ell \neq p$ be a prime number, and $\text{W}_{F}$ the Weil group of $F$. We classify equivalence classes of $\text{W}_{F}$-semisimple Deligne $\ell$-modular representations of $\text{W}_{F}$ in terms of irreducible $\ell$-modular representations of $\text{W}_{F}$, and extend constructions of Artin–Deligne local constants to this setting. Finally, we define a variant of the $\ell$-modular local Langlands correspondence which satisfies a preservation of local constants statement for pairs of generic representations.

In the joint work with Elmanto, Hoyois, Khan and Sosnilo, we computed infinite $\mathbb{P}^{1}$-loop spaces of motivic Thom spectra using the technique of framed correspondences. This result allows us to express non-negative $\mathbb{G}_{m}$-homotopy groups of motivic Thom spectra in terms of geometric generators and relations. Using this explicit description, we show that the unit map of the algebraic special linear cobordism spectrum induces an isomorphism on $\mathbb{G}_{m}$-homotopy sheaves.

We study the temporal decay estimate of the Oseen semigroup in a two-dimensional exterior domain. We establish the local energy decay estimate with a suitable dependence on the small translation speed, which is a significant improvement of Hishida’s result in 2016. As an application, we prove the $L^{q}$-$L^{r}$ estimates of the Oseen semigroup uniformly in the small translation speed.

We study a class of flat bundles, of finite rank $N$, which arise naturally from the Donaldson–Thomas theory of a Calabi–Yau threefold $X$ via the notion of a variation of BPS structure. We prove that in a large $N$ limit their flat sections converge to the solutions to certain infinite-dimensional Riemann–Hilbert problems recently found by Bridgeland. In particular this implies an expression for the positive degree, genus 0 Gopakumar–Vafa contribution to the Gromov–Witten partition function of $X$ in terms of solutions to confluent hypergeometric differential equations.

In this article, we study compactifications of homogeneous spaces coming from equivariant, open embeddings into a generalized flag manifold $G/P$. The key to this approach is that in each case $G/P$ is the homogeneous model for a parabolic geometry; the theory of such geometries provides a large supply of geometric tools and invariant differential operators that can be used for this study. A classical theorem of Wolf shows that any involutive automorphism of a semisimple Lie group $G$ with fixed point group $H$ gives rise to a large family of such compactifications of homogeneous spaces of $H$. Most examples of (classical) Riemannian symmetric spaces as well as many non-symmetric examples arise in this way. A specific feature of the approach is that any compactification of that type comes with the notion of ‘curved analog’ to which the tools we develop also apply. The model example of this is a general Poincaré–Einstein manifold forming the curved analog of the conformal compactification of hyperbolic space. In the first part of the article, we derive general tools for the analysis of such compactifications. In the second part, we analyze two families of examples in detail, which in particular contain compactifications of the symmetric spaces $\mathit{SL}(n,\mathbb{R})/\mathit{SO}(p,n-p)$ and $\mathit{SO}(n,\mathbb{C})/\mathit{SO}(n)$. We describe the decomposition of the compactification into orbits, show how orbit closures can be described as the zero sets of smooth solutions to certain invariant differential operators and prove a local slice theorem around each orbit in these examples.

Keller proved in 1999 that the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is an invariant of the derived category. In this paper, we adapt his approach to show that the Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the Tate–Hochschild cohomology of an algebra is preserved under singular equivalences of Morita type with level, a notion introduced by the author in previous work.

Let $A$ be the product of an abelian variety and a torus defined over a number field $K$. Fix some prime number $\ell$. If $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}\in A(K)$ is a point of infinite order, we consider the set of primes $\mathfrak{p}$ of $K$ such that the reduction $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}\hspace{0.2em}{\rm mod}\hspace{0.2em}\mathfrak{p})$ is well-defined and has order coprime to $\ell$. This set admits a natural density. By refining the method of Jones and Rouse [Galois theory of iterated endomorphisms, Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3) 100(3) (2010), 763–794. Appendix A by Jeffrey D. Achter], we can express the density as an $\ell$-adic integral without requiring any assumption. We also prove that the density is always a rational number whose denominator (up to powers of $\ell$) is uniformly bounded in a very strong sense. For elliptic curves, we describe a strategy for computing the density which covers every possible case.

Let $p$ be a prime, let $K$ be a complete discrete valuation field of characteristic $0$ with a perfect residue field of characteristic $p$, and let $G_{K}$ be the Galois group. Let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ be a fixed uniformizer of $K$, let $K_{\infty }$ be the extension by adjoining to $K$ a system of compatible $p^{n}$th roots of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}$ for all $n$, and let $L$ be the Galois closure of $K_{\infty }$. Using these field extensions, Caruso constructs the $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F})$-modules, which classify $p$-adic Galois representations of $G_{K}$. In this paper, we study locally analytic vectors in some period rings with respect to the $p$-adic Lie group $\operatorname{Gal}(L/K)$, in the spirit of the work by Berger and Colmez. Using these locally analytic vectors, and using the classical overconvergent $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4})$-modules, we can establish the overconvergence property of the $(\unicode[STIX]{x1D711},\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F})$-modules.

We solve the inverse differential Galois problem over differential fields with a large field of constants of infinite transcendence degree over $\mathbb{Q}$. More generally, we show that over such a field, every split differential embedding problem can be solved. In particular, we solve the inverse differential Galois problem and all split differential embedding problems over $\mathbb{Q}_{p}(x)$.

We prove constancy of Newton polygons of all convergent $F$-isocrystals on Abelian varieties over finite fields. Applying the constancy, we prove the isotriviality of proper smooth families of curves over Abelian varieties. More generally, we prove the isotriviality over projective smooth varieties on which any convergent $F$-isocrystal has constant Newton polygons.

We provide a class of separable II1 factors $M$ whose central sequence algebra is not the ‘tail’ algebra associated with any decreasing sequence of von Neumann subalgebras of $M$. This settles a question of McDuff [On residual sequences in a II1 factor, J. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) (1971), 273–280].

We determine the irregular Hodge filtration, as introduced by Sabbah, for the purely irregular hypergeometric ${\mathcal{D}}$-modules. We obtain, in particular, a formula for the irregular Hodge numbers of these systems. We use the reduction of hypergeometric systems from GKZ-systems as well as comparison results to Gauss–Manin systems of Laurent polynomials via Fourier–Laplace and Radon transformations.

We use Heegaard Floer homology to define an invariant of homology cobordism. This invariant is isomorphic to a summand of the reduced Heegaard Floer homology of a rational homology sphere equipped with a spin structure and is analogous to Stoffregen’s connected Seiberg–Witten Floer homology. We use this invariant to study the structure of the homology cobordism group and, along the way, compute the involutive correction terms $\bar{d}$ and $\text{}\underline{d}$ for certain families of three-manifolds.

We prove a $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$-equivariant version of the algebraic index theorem, where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6E4}$ is a discrete group of automorphisms of a formal deformation of a symplectic manifold. The particular cases of this result are the algebraic version of the transversal index theorem related to the theorem of A. Connes and H. Moscovici for hypo-elliptic operators and the index theorem for the extension of the algebra of pseudodifferential operators by a group of diffeomorphisms of the underlying manifold due to A. Savin, B. Sternin, E. Schrohe and D. Perrot.

The purpose of this note is to establish isomorphisms up to bounded torsion between relative $K_{0}$-groups and Chow groups with modulus as defined by Binda and Saito.

We study the Daugavet property in tensor products of Banach spaces. We show that $L_{1}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D707})\widehat{\otimes }_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D700}}L_{1}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D708})$ has the Daugavet property when $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D708}$ are purely non-atomic measures. Also, we show that $X\widehat{\otimes }_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D70B}}Y$ has the Daugavet property provided $X$ and $Y$ are $L_{1}$-preduals with the Daugavet property, in particular, spaces of continuous functions with this property. With the same techniques, we also obtain consequences about roughness in projective tensor products as well as the Daugavet property of projective symmetric tensor products.

Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of prime characteristic $p$, let $X$ be a semiabelian variety defined over a finite subfield of $K$, let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}:X\longrightarrow X$ be a regular self-map defined over $K$, let $V\subset X$ be a subvariety defined over $K$, and let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}\in X(K)$. The dynamical Mordell–Lang conjecture in characteristic $p$ predicts that the set $S=\{n\in \mathbb{N}:\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}^{n}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC})\in V\}$ is a union of finitely many arithmetic progressions, along with finitely many $p$-sets, which are sets of the form $\{\sum _{i=1}^{m}c_{i}p^{k_{i}n_{i}}:n_{i}\in \mathbb{N}\}$ for some $m\in \mathbb{N}$, some rational numbers $c_{i}$ and some non-negative integers $k_{i}$. We prove that this conjecture is equivalent with some difficult diophantine problem in characteristic 0. In the case $X$ is an algebraic torus, we can prove the conjecture in two cases: either when $\dim (V)\leqslant 2$, or when no iterate of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F7}$ is a group endomorphism which induces the action of a power of the Frobenius on a positive dimensional algebraic subgroup of $X$. We end by proving that Vojta’s conjecture implies the dynamical Mordell–Lang conjecture for tori with no restriction.

The symbolic analytic spread of an ideal $I$ is defined in terms of the rate of growth of the minimal number of generators of its symbolic powers. In this article, we find upper bounds for the symbolic analytic spread under certain conditions in terms of other invariants of $I$. Our methods also work for more general systems of ideals. As applications, we provide bounds for the (local) Kodaira dimension of divisors, the arithmetic rank, and the Frobenius complexity. We also show sufficient conditions for an ideal to be a set-theoretic complete intersection.

Let $p$ be an odd prime. For a number field $K$, we let $K_{\infty }$ be the maximal unramified pro-$p$ extension of $K$; we call the group $\text{Gal}(K_{\infty }/K)$ the $p$-class tower group of $K$. In a previous work, as a non-abelian generalization of the work of Cohen and Lenstra on ideal class groups, we studied how likely it is that a given finite $p$-group occurs as the $p$-class tower group of an imaginary quadratic field. Here we do the same for an arbitrary real quadratic field $K$ as base. As before, the action of $\text{Gal}(K/\mathbb{Q})$ on the $p$-class tower group of $K$ plays a crucial role; however, the presence of units of infinite order in the ground field significantly complicates the possibilities for the groups that can occur. We also sharpen our results in the imaginary quadratic field case by removing a certain hypothesis, using ideas of Boston and Wood. In the appendix, we show how the probabilities introduced for finite $p$-groups can be extended in a consistent way to the infinite pro-$p$ groups which can arise in both the real and imaginary quadratic settings.

We study $\text{Sp}_{2n}(F)$-distinction for representations of the quasi-split unitary group $U_{2n}(E/F)$ in $2n$ variables with respect to a quadratic extension $E/F$ of $p$-adic fields. A conjecture of Dijols and Prasad predicts that no tempered representation is distinguished. We verify this for a large family of representations in terms of the Mœglin–Tadić classification of the discrete series. We further study distinction for some families of non-tempered representations. In particular, we exhibit $L$-packets with no distinguished members that transfer under base change to $\text{Sp}_{2n}(E)$-distinguished representations of $\text{GL}_{2n}(E)$.
