We prove that the exponent of distribution of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}_{3}$ in arithmetic progressions can be as large as $\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{34}$, provided that the moduli is squarefree and has only sufficiently small prime factors. The tools involve arithmetic exponent pairs for algebraic trace functions, as well as a double $q$-analogue of the van der Corput method for smooth bilinear forms.
The purpose of this article is to generalize some known characterizations of Banach space properties in terms of graph preclusion. In particular, it is shown that superreflexivity can be characterized by the non-equi-bi-Lipschitz embeddability of any family of bundle graphs generated by a non-trivial finitely branching bundle graph. It is likewise shown that asymptotic uniform convexifiability can be characterized within the class of reflexive Banach spaces with an unconditional asymptotic structure by the non-equi-bi-Lipschitz embeddability of any family of bundle graphs generated by a non-trivial $\aleph _{0}$-branching bundle graph. For the specific case of $L_{1}$, it is shown that every countably branching bundle graph bi-Lipschitzly embeds into $L_{1}$ with distortion no worse than $2$.
In this paper we provide a unified approach, based on methods of descriptive set theory, for proving some classical selection theorems. Among them is the zero-dimensional Michael selection theorem, the Kuratowski–Ryll-Nardzewski selection theorem, as well as a known selection theorem for hyperspaces.
Let $\Vert \cdots \Vert$ denote distance from the integers. Let $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}$, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FD}$, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}$ be real numbers with $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}$ irrational. We show that the inequality
has infinitely many solutions in primes $p$, sharpening a result due to Harman [On the distribution of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FC}p$ modulo one II. Proc. Lond. Math. Soc. (3)72 (1996), 241–260] in the case $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FD}=0$ and Baker [Fractional parts of polynomials over the primes. Mathematika63 (2017), 715–733] in the general case.
This paper is devoted to dimensional reductions via the norm-resolvent convergence. We derive explicit bounds on the resolvent difference as well as spectral asymptotics. The efficiency of our abstract tool is demonstrated by its application on seemingly different partial differential equation problems from various areas of mathematical physics; all are analysed in a unified manner, known results are recovered and new ones established.
The purpose of this paper twofold. Firstly, we establish $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}}^{0}$-completeness and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F4}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}}^{0}$-completeness of several different classes of multifractal decomposition sets of arbitrary Borel measures (satisfying a mild non-degeneracy condition and two mild “smoothness” conditions). Secondly, we apply these results to study the $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F1}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}}^{0}$-completeness and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F4}_{\unicode[STIX]{x1D6FE}}^{0}$-completeness of several multifractal decomposition sets of self-similar measures (satisfying a mild separation condition). For example, a corollary of our results shows if $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ is a self-similar measure satisfying the strong separation condition and $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ is not equal to the normalized Hausdorff measure on its support, then the classical multifractal decomposition sets of $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ defined by
In the paper, we provide an effective criterion for the Lipschitz equivalence of two-branch Cantor sets and three-branch Cantor sets by studying the irreducibility of polynomials. We also find that any two Cantor sets are Lipschitz equivalent if and only if their contraction vectors are equivalent provided one of the contraction vectors is homogeneous.
Let $s\geqslant 3$ be a fixed positive integer and let $a_{1},\ldots ,a_{s}\in \mathbb{Z}$ be arbitrary. We show that, on average over $k$, the density of numbers represented by the degree $k$ diagonal form
We study a quasilinear degenerately elliptic system involving the operator curl. The leading-order term of the associated energy functional is a q-power of curl of the unknowns. It is interesting to us that the structure of the lower-order terms will play an important role in both the existence and regularity of the solutions. When the lower-order part of the energy functional is convex we obtain weak solutions by minimizing the functional in some suitable spaces of vector fields. When it is concave we obtain critical points of the truncated functional, which are weak solutions of a nonlinear eigenvalue problem. We also examine the interior Hölder regularity of the weak solutions, which indicates that the weak solution is composed of a ‘good’ divergence-free part and a ‘bad’ part in gradient form. The analysis involves local higher integrability and local Hölder gradient estimates for a translated q′-Laplace equation and a translated quasilinear equation with p-growth.
The convergence and blow-up results are established for the evolution of non-simple closed curves in an area-preserving curvature flow. It is shown that the global solution starting from a locally convex curve converges to an m-fold circle if the enclosed algebraic area A0 is positive, and evolves into a point if A0 = 0.
The aim of this note is to study octahedrality in vector-valued Lipschitz-free Banach spaces on a metric space, under topological hypotheses on it, by analysing the weak-star strong diameter 2 property in Lipschitz function spaces. Also, we show an example that proves that our results are optimal and that octahedrality in vector-valued Lipschitz-free Banach spaces actually relies on the underlying metric space as well as on the Banach one.
We consider bifurcation of solutions from a given trivial branch for a class of strongly indefinite elliptic systems via the spectral flow. Our main results establish bifurcation invariants that can be obtained from the coefficients of the systems without using explicit solutions of their linearizations at the given branch. Our constructions are based on a comparison principle for the spectral flow and a generalization of a bifurcation theorem due to Szulkin.
