We prove that a minimal second countable ample groupoid has dynamical comparison if and only if its type semigroup is almost unperforated. Moreover, we investigate to what extent a not necessarily minimal almost finite groupoid has an almost unperforated type semigroup. Finally, we build a bridge between coarse geometry and topological dynamics by characterizing almost finiteness of the coarse groupoid in terms of a new coarsely invariant property for metric spaces, which might be of independent interest in coarse geometry. As a consequence, we are able to construct new examples of almost finite principal groupoids lacking other desirable properties, such as amenability or even a-T-menability. This behaviour is in stark contrast to the case of principal transformation groupoids associated to group actions.

We construct automorphisms of ${\mathbb C}^2$, and more precisely transcendental Hénon maps, with an invariant escaping Fatou component which has exactly two distinct limit functions, both of (generic) rank one. We also prove a general growth lemma for the norm of points in orbits belonging to invariant escaping Fatou components for automorphisms of the form $F(z,w)=(g(z,w),z)$ with $g(z,w):{\mathbb C}^2\rightarrow {\mathbb C}$ holomorphic.

Let $m_1 \geq m_2 \geq 2$ be integers. We consider subsets of the product symbolic sequence space $(\{0,\ldots ,m_1-1\} \times \{0,\ldots ,m_2-1\})^{\mathbb {N}^*}$ that are invariant under the action of the semigroup of multiplicative integers. These sets are defined following Kenyon, Peres, and Solomyak and using a fixed integer $q \geq 2$. We compute the Hausdorff and Minkowski dimensions of the projection of these sets onto an affine grid of the unit square. The proof of our Hausdorff dimension formula proceeds via a variational principle over some class of Borel probability measures on the studied sets. This extends well-known results on self-affine Sierpiński carpets. However, the combinatoric arguments we use in our proofs are more elaborate than in the self-similar case and involve a new parameter, namely $j = \lfloor \log _q ( {\log (m_1)}/{\log (m_2)} ) \rfloor $. We then generalize our results to the same subsets defined in dimension $d \geq 2$. There, the situation is even more delicate and our formulas involve a collection of $2d-3$ parameters.

We study the ergodic properties of horospheres on rank 1 manifolds with non-positive curvature. We prove that the horospheres are equidistributed under the action of the geodesic flow towards the Bowen–Margulis measure, on a large class of manifolds. In the case of surfaces, we define a parametrization of the horocyclic flow on the set of horocycles containing a rank 1 vector that is recurrent under the action of the geodesic flow. We prove that the horocyclic flow in restriction to this set is uniquely ergodic. The results are valid for large classes of manifolds, including the compact ones.

Packing topological entropy is a dynamical analogy of the packing dimension, which can be viewed as a counterpart of Bowen topological entropy. In the present paper we give a systematic study of the packing topological entropy for a continuous G-action dynamical system $(X,G)$, where X is a compact metric space and G is a countable infinite discrete amenable group. We first prove a variational principle for amenable packing topological entropy: for any Borel subset Z of X, the packing topological entropy of Z equals the supremum of upper local entropy over all Borel probability measures for which the subset Z has full measure. Then we obtain an entropy inequality concerning amenable packing entropy. Finally, we show that the packing topological entropy of the set of generic points for any invariant Borel probability measure $\mu $ coincides with the metric entropy if either $\mu $ is ergodic or the system satisfies a kind of specification property.

We consider families of random products of close-by Anosov diffeomorphisms, and show that statistical stability and linear response hold for the associated families of equivariant and stationary measures. Our analysis relies on the study of the top Oseledets space of a parametrized transfer operator cocycle, as well as ad-hoc abstract perturbation statements. As an application, we show that, when the quenched central limit theorem (CLT) holds, under the conditions that ensure linear response for our cocycle, the variance in the CLT depends differentiably on the parameter.

We are interested in dendrites for which all invariant measures of zero-entropy mappings have discrete spectrum, and we prove that this holds when the closure of the endpoint set of the dendrites is countable. This solves an open question which has been around for awhile, and almost completes the characterization of dendrites with this property.

Consider a component ${\cal Q}$ of a stratum in the moduli space of area-one abelian differentials on a surface of genus g. Call a property ${\cal P}$ for periodic orbits of the Teichmüller flow on ${\cal Q}$ typical if the growth rate of orbits with property ${\cal P}$ is maximal. We show that the following property is typical. Given a continuous integrable cocycle over the Teichmüller flow with values in a vector bundle $V\to {\cal Q}$, the logarithms of the eigenvalues of the matrix defined by the cocycle and the orbit are arbitrarily close to the Lyapunov exponents of the cocycle for the Masur–Veech measure.

We study the dynamics of the map $f:\mathbb {A}^N\to \mathbb {A}^N$ defined by

for $A\in \operatorname {SL}_N$, $\mathbf {b}\in \mathbb {A}^N$, and $d\geq 2$, a class which specializes to the unicritical polynomials when $N=1$. In the case $k=\mathbb {C}$ we obtain lower bounds on the sum of Lyapunov exponents of f, and a statement which generalizes the compactness of the Mandelbrot set. Over $\overline {\mathbb {Q}}$ we obtain estimates on the critical height of f, and over algebraically closed fields we obtain some rigidity results for post-critically finite morphisms of this form.

Let M be a compact smooth manifold without boundary. Based on results by Good and Meddaugh [Invent. Math. 220 (2020), 715–736], we prove that a strong distributional chaos is $C^0$-generic in the space of continuous self-maps (respectively, homeomorphisms) of M. The results contain answers to questions by Li, Li and Tu [Chaos 26 (2016), 093103] and Moothathu [Topology Appl. 158 (2011), 2232–2239] in the zero-dimensional case. A related counter-example on the chain components under shadowing is also given.

Given a dynamical simplex K on a Cantor space X, we consider the set $G_K^*$ of all homeomorphisms of X which preserve all elements of K and have no non-trivial clopen invariant subset. Generalizing a theorem of Yingst, we prove that for a generic element g of $G_K^*$ the set of invariant measures of g is equal to K. We also investigate when there exists a generic conjugacy class in $G_K^*$ and prove that this happens exactly when K has only one element, which is the unique invariant measure associated to some odometer; and that in that case the conjugacy class of this odometer is generic in $G_K^*$.

We construct an invariant measure for a piecewise analytic interval map whose Lyapunov exponent is not defined. Moreover, for a set of full measure, the pointwise Lyapunov exponent is not defined. This map has a Lorenz-like singularity and non-flat critical points.

The Julia set of the exponential family $E_{\kappa }:z\mapsto \kappa e^z$, $\kappa>0$ was shown to be the entire complex plane when $\kappa>1/e$ essentially by Misiurewicz. Later, Devaney and Krych showed that for $0<\kappa \leq 1/e$ the Julia set is an uncountable union of pairwise disjoint simple curves tending to infinity. Bergweiler generalized the result of Devaney and Krych for a three-dimensional analogue of the exponential map called the Zorich map. We show that the Julia set of certain Zorich maps with symmetry is the whole of $\mathbb {R}^3$, generalizing Misiurewicz’s result. Moreover, we show that the periodic points of the Zorich map are dense in $\mathbb {R}^3$ and that its escaping set is connected, generalizing a result of Rempe. We also generalize a theorem of Ghys, Sullivan and Goldberg on the measurable dynamics of the exponential.
