We prove a two-dimensional analog of the Leau–Fatou flower theorem for non-degenerate reduced biholomorphisms tangent to the identity.

Let A be a rational function of one complex variable of degree at least two, and $z_0$ its repelling fixed point with the multiplier $\unicode{x3bb} .$ A Poincaré function associated with $z_0$ is a function meromorphic on ${\mathbb C}$ such that , and In this paper, we study the following problem: given Poincaré functions and , find out if there is an algebraic relation between them and, if such a relation exists, describe the corresponding algebraic curve $f(x,y)=0.$ We provide a solution, which can be viewed as a refinement of the classical theorem of Ritt about commuting rational functions. We also reprove and extend previous results concerning algebraic dependencies between Böttcher functions.

We prove that almost every interval exchange transformation, with an associated translation surface of genus $g\geq 2$, can be non-trivially and isometrically embedded in a family of piecewise isometries. In particular, this proves the existence of invariant curves for piecewise isometries, reminiscent of Kolmogorov–Arnold–Moser (KAM) curves for area-preserving maps, which are not unions of circle arcs or line segments.

Due to a result by Glasner and Downarowicz [Isomorphic extensions and applications. Topol. Methods Nonlinear Anal. 48(1) (2016), 321–338], it is known that a minimal system is mean equicontinuous if and only if it is an isomorphic extension of its maximal equicontinuous factor. The majority of known examples of this type are almost automorphic, that is, the factor map to the maximal equicontinuous factor is almost one-to-one. The only cases of isomorphic extensions which are not almost automorphic are again due to Glasner and Downarowicz, who in the same article provide a construction of such systems in a rather general topological setting. Here, we use the Anosov–Katok method to provide an alternative route to such examples and to show that these may be realized as smooth skew product diffeomorphisms of the two-torus with an irrational rotation on the base. Moreover – and more importantly – a modification of the construction allows to ensure that lifts of these diffeomorphisms to finite covering spaces provide novel examples of finite-to-one topomorphic extensions of irrational rotations. These are still strictly ergodic and share the same dynamical eigenvalues as the original system, but show an additional singular continuous component of the dynamical spectrum.

We prove that every genuinely partially hyperbolic $\mathbb {Z}^r$-action by toral automorphisms can be perturbed in $C^1$-topology, so that the resulting action is continuously conjugate, but not $C^1$-conjugate, to the original one.

We study the computational problem of rigorously describing the asymptotic behavior of topological dynamical systems up to a finite but arbitrarily small pre-specified error. More precisely, we consider the limit set of a typical orbit, both as a spatial object (attractor set) and as a statistical distribution (physical measure), and we prove upper bounds on the computational resources of computing descriptions of these objects with arbitrary accuracy. We also study how these bounds are affected by different dynamical constraints and provide several examples showing that our bounds are sharp in general. In particular, we exhibit a computable interval map having a unique transitive attractor with Cantor set structure supporting a unique physical measure such that both the attractor and the measure are non-computable.

An area-preserving homeomorphism isotopic to the identity is said to have rational rotation direction if its rotation vector is a real multiple of a rational class. We give a short proof that any area-preserving homeomorphism of a compact surface of genus at least two, which is isotopic to the identity and has rational rotation direction, is either the identity or has periodic points of unbounded minimal period. This answers a question of Ginzburg and Seyfaddini and can be regarded as a Conley conjecture-type result for symplectic homeomorphisms of surfaces beyond the Hamiltonian case. We also discuss several variations, such as maps preserving arbitrary Borel probability measures with full support, maps that are not isotopic to the identity and maps on lower genus surfaces. The proofs of the main results combine topological arguments with periodic Floer homology.

Let $f,g$ be $C^2$ expanding maps on the circle which are topologically conjugate. We assume that the derivatives of f and g at corresponding periodic points coincide for some large period N. We show that f and g are ‘approximately smoothly conjugate.’ Namely, we construct a $C^2$ conjugacy $h_N$ such that $h_N$ is exponentially close to h in the $C^0$ topology, and $f_N:=h_N^{-1}gh_N$ is exponentially close to f in the $C^1$ topology. Our main tool is a uniform effective version of Bowen’s equidistribution of weighted periodic orbits to the equilibrium state.

We prove that for $C^{1+\theta }$, $\theta $-bunched, dynamically coherent partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, the stable and unstable holonomies between center leaves are $C^1$, and the derivative depends continuously on the points and on the map. Also for $C^{1+\theta }$, $\theta $-bunched partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms, the derivative cocycle restricted to the center bundle has invariant continuous holonomies which depend continuously on the map. This generalizes previous results by Pugh, Shub, and Wilkinson; Burns and Wilkinson; Brown; Obata; Avila, Santamaria, and Viana; and Marin.

Krieger’s embedding theorem provides necessary and sufficient conditions for an arbitrary subshift to embed in a given topologically mixing $\mathbb {Z}$-subshift of finite type. For certain families of $\mathbb {Z}^d$-subshifts of finite type, Lightwood characterized the aperiodic subsystems. In the current paper, we prove a new embedding theorem for a class of subshifts of finite type over any countable abelian group. Our theorem provides necessary and sufficient conditions for an arbitrary subshift X to embed inside a given subshift of finite type Y that satisfies a certain natural condition. For the particular case of $\mathbb {Z}$-subshifts, our new theorem coincides with Krieger’s theorem. Our result gives the first complete characterization of the subsystems of the multidimensional full shift $Y= \{0,1\}^{\mathbb {Z}^d}$. The natural condition on the target subshift Y, introduced explicitly for the first time in the current paper, is called the map extension property. It was introduced implicitly by Mike Boyle in the early 1980s for $\mathbb {Z}$-subshifts and is closely related to the notion of an absolute retract, introduced by Borsuk in the 1930s. A $\mathbb {Z}$-subshift has the map extension property if and only if it is a topologically mixing subshift of finite type. We show that various natural examples of $\mathbb {Z}^d$ subshifts of finite type satisfy the map extension property, and hence our embedding theorem applies for them. These include any subshift of finite type with a safe symbol and the k-colorings of $\mathbb {Z}^d$ with $k \ge 2d+1$. We also establish a new theorem regarding lower entropy factors of multidimensional subshifts that extends Boyle’s lower entropy factor theorem from the one-dimensional case.

In this paper, we study a connection between disintegration of measures and geometric properties of probability spaces. We prove a disintegration theorem, addressing disintegration from the perspective of an optimal transport problem. We look at the disintegration of transport plans, which are used to define and study disintegration maps. Using these objects, we study the regularity and absolute continuity of disintegration of measures. In particular, we exhibit conditions for which the disintegration map is weakly continuous and one can obtain a path of measures given by this map. We show a rigidity condition for the disintegration of measures to be given into absolutely continuous measures.

Under certain conditions, we construct a countable Markov partition for pointwise hyperbolic diffeomorphism $f:M\rightarrow M$ on an open invariant subset $O\subset M$, which allows the Lyapunov exponents to be zero. From this partition, we define a symbolic extension that is finite-to-one and onto a subset of O that carries the same finite f-invariant measures as O. Our method relies upon shadowing theory of a recurrent-pointwise-pseudo-orbit that we introduce. As a canonical application, we estimate the number of closed orbits for f.

We consider the system $\dot {x}=(A+ P(t,\epsilon )) x, x\in \mathbb {R}^{3}, $ where $A, P$ are both three-dimensional skew symmetric matrices, A is a constant matrix with eigenvalues $\pm i\unicode{x3bb} $ and 0, $P(t,\epsilon )$ is $C^{m}(m=0,1)$-smooth in $\epsilon $ and analytic quasi-periodic with respect to t with basic frequencies $\omega =(1,\alpha )$, with $\alpha $ being irrational, and $\epsilon $ is a small parameter. Under some non-resonant conditions about the basic frequencies and the eigenvalues of the constant matrix and without any non-degeneracy condition, it is proved that for many sufficiently small parameters, this system can be reduced to a rotation system. Furthermore, if the basic frequencies satisfy that $ 0\leq \beta (\alpha ) < r,$ where $\beta (\alpha )=\limsup \nolimits _{n\rightarrow \infty } {\ln q_{n+1}}/{q_{n}},$ $q_{n}$ is the sequence of denominations of the best rational approximations for $\alpha \in \mathbb {R} \setminus \mathbb {Q},$ r is the initial radius of analytic domain, it is proved that for many sufficiently small parameters, this system can be reduced to a constant system.

This paper analyzes the initial value problem for the Toda lattice with almost periodic initial data: let $J(t; J_{0})$ denote the family of Jacobi matrices which are solutions of the Toda flow equation with initial condition $J(0; J_{0})=J_{0},$ then, the given almost periodic datum $J_{0}$ is a discrete linear Schrödinger operator with almost periodic potential, which plays a fundamental role in our considerations. We show that, under some given hypotheses, the spectrum of the Schrödinger operator is pure absolute continuous and homogeneous (measure-theoretically) by establishing exponential asymptotics on the size of spectral gaps. These two conclusions enable us to show the boundedness and almost periodicity in the time of solutions for Toda lattice equation with almost periodic initial data. As a consequence, our result presents a positive answer to the discrete Deift’s conjecture [Some open problems in random matrix theory and the theory of integrable systems. Integrable Systems and Random Matrices (Contemporary Mathematics, 458). We classify quasidiagonals of the $SL(2, R)$ action on products of strata or hyperelliptic loci. We use the technique of diamonds developed by Apisa and Wright in order to use induction on this problem.

This paper studies various aspects of inverse limits of locally expanding affine linear maps on flat branched manifolds, which I call flat Wieler solenoids. Among the aspects studied are different types of cohomologies, the rates of mixing given by the Ruelle spectrum of the hyperbolic map acting on this space, and solutions of the cohomological equation in primitive substitution subshifts for Hölder functions. The overarching theme is that considerations of $\alpha $-Hölder regularity on Cantor sets go a long way.

Let $(X,\mu ,T,d)$ be a metric measure-preserving dynamical system such that three-fold correlations decay exponentially for Lipschitz continuous observables. We address the inverse problem for holomorphic germs of a mapping of the complex line near a fixed point which is tangent to the identity. We provide a preferred parabolic map $\Delta $ realizing a given Birkhoff–Écalle–Voronin modulus $\psi $ and prove its uniqueness in the functional class we introduce. The germ is the time-$1$ map of a Gevrey formal vector field admitting meromorphic sums on a pair of infinite sectors covering the Riemann sphere. For that reason, the analytic continuation of $\Delta $ is a multivalued map admitting finitely many branch points with finite monodromy. In particular, $\Delta $ is holomorphic and injective on an open slit sphere containing $0$ (the initial fixed point) and $\infty $, where the companion parabolic point is situated under the involution ${-1}/{\mathrm {Id}}$. One finds that the Birkhoff–Écalle–Voronin modulus of the parabolic germ at $\infty $ is the inverse $\psi ^{\circ -1}$ of that at $0$.

We study the multifractal properties of the uniform approximation exponent and asymptotic approximation exponent in continued fractions. As a corollary, we calculate the Hausdorff dimension of the uniform Diophantine set

We define balanced self-similar quasi-round carpets and compare the carpet moduli of some path families relating to such a carpet. Then, using some known results on quasiconformal geometry of carpets, we prove that the group of quasisymmetric self-homeomorphisms of every balanced self-similar quasi-round carpet is finite. Furthermore, we prove that some balanced self-similar carpets in the unit square with strong geometric symmetry are quasisymmetrically rigid by using the quasisymmetry of weak tangents of carpets.
