In this paper, we introduce the spherical polar decomposition of the linear pencil of an ordered pair $\mathbf {T}=(T_{1},T_{2})$ and investigate nontrivial invariant subspaces between the generalized spherical Aluthge transform of the linear pencil of $\mathbf {T}$ and the linear pencil of the original pair $\mathbf {T}$ of bounded operators with dense ranges.

We determine the adjoint Reidemeister torsion of a $3$-manifold obtained by some Dehn surgery along K, where K is either the figure-eight knot or the $5_2$-knot. As in a vanishing conjecture (Benini et al. (2020, Journal of High Energy Physics 2020, 57), Gang et al. (2020, Journal of High Energy Physics 2020, 164), and Gang et al. (2021, Advances in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics 25, 1819–1845)), we consider a similar conjecture and show that the conjecture holds for the 3-manifold.

We study a nonlinear Beltrami equation $f_\theta =\sigma \,|f_r|^m f_r$ in polar coordinates $(r,\theta ),$ which becomes the classical Cauchy–Riemann system under $m=0$ and $\sigma =ir.$ Using the isoperimetric technique, various lower estimates for $|f(z)|/|z|, f(0)=0,$ as $z\to 0,$ are derived under appropriate integral conditions on complex/directional dilatations. The sharpness of the above bounds is illustrated by several examples.

This paper deals with some Monge–Ampère type equations involving the gradient that are elliptic in the framework of convex functions. First, we show that such equations may be obtained by minimizing a suitable functional. Moreover, we investigate a P-function associated with the solution to a boundary value problem of our generalized Monge–Ampère equation in a bounded convex domain. It will be shown that this P-function attains its maximum value on the boundary of the underlying domain. Furthermore, we show that such a P-function is actually identically constant when the underlying domain is a ball. Therefore, our result provides a best possible maximum principles in the sense of L. E. Payne. Finally, in case of dimension 2, we prove that this P-function also attains its minimum value on the boundary of the underlying domain. As an application, we will show that the solvability of a Serrin’s type overdetermined problem for our generalized Monge–Ampère type equation forces the underlying domain to be a ball.

In this article, we prove several refined versions of the classical Bohr inequality for the class of analytic self-mappings on the unit disk $ \mathbb {D} $, class of analytic functions $ f $ defined on $ \mathbb {D} $ such that $\mathrm {Re}\left (f(z)\right )<1 $, and class of subordination to a function g in $ \mathbb {D} $. Consequently, the main results of this article are established as certainly improved versions of several existing results. All the results are proved to be sharp.

The characterization of projectively flat Finsler metrics on an open subset in $R^n$ is the Hilbert’s fourth problem in the regular case. Locally projectively flat Finsler manifolds form an important class of Finsler manifolds. Every Finsler metric induces a spray on the manifold via geodesics. Therefore, it is a natural problem to investigate the geometric and topological properties of manifolds equipped with a spray. In this paper, we study the Pontrjagin classes of a manifold equipped with a locally projectively flat spray and show that such manifold must have zero Pontrjagin classes.

In this article, the question of whether the Löwner partial order on the positive cone of an operator algebra is determined by the norm of any arbitrary Kubo–Ando mean is studied. The question was affirmatively answered for certain classes of Kubo–Ando means, yet the general case was left as an open problem. We here give a complete answer to this question, by showing that the norm of every symmetric Kubo–Ando mean is order-determining, i.e., if $A,B\in \mathcal B(H)^{++}$ satisfy $\Vert A\sigma X\Vert \le \Vert B\sigma X\Vert $ for every $X\in \mathcal {A}^{{++}}$, where $\mathcal A$ is the C*-subalgebra generated by $B-A$ and I, then $A\le B$.

In this paper, we give Pieri rules for skew dual immaculate functions and their recently discovered row-strict counterparts. We establish our rules using a right-action analogue of the skew Littlewood–Richardson rule for Hopf algebras of Lam–Lauve–Sottile. We also obtain Pieri rules for row-strict (dual) immaculate functions.

We investigate the convexity of the radial sum of two convex bodies containing the origin. Generally, the radial sum of two convex bodies containing the origin is not convex. We show that the radial sum of a star body (with respect to the origin) and any large centered ball is convex, which produces a pair of convex bodies containing the origin whose radial sum is convex.

We also investigate the convexity of the intersection body of a convex body containing the origin. Generally, the intersection body of a convex body containing the origin is not convex. Busemann’s theorem states that the intersection body of any centered convex body is convex. We are interested in how to construct convex intersection bodies from convex bodies without any symmetry (especially, central symmetry). We show that the intersection body of the radial sum of a star body (with respect to the origin) and any large centered ball is convex, which produces a convex body with no symmetries whose intersection body is convex.

Suppose $\mathfrak {g}=\mathfrak {g}_{\bar 0}+\mathfrak {g}_{\bar 1}$ is a finite-dimensional restricted Lie superalgebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbf {k}$ of characteristic $p>2$. In this article, we propose a conjecture for maximal dimensions of irreducible modules over the universal enveloping algebra $U(\mathfrak {g})$ of $\mathfrak {g}$, as a super generalization of the celebrated first Kac–Weisfeiler conjecture. It is demonstrated that the conjecture holds for all basic classical Lie superalgebras and all completely solvable restricted Lie superalgebras. In this process, we investigate irreducible representations of solvable Lie superalgebras.

Given a $\sigma $-finite measure space $(X,\mu )$, a Young function $\Phi $, and a one-parameter family of Young functions $\{\Psi _q\}$, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the associated Orlicz norms of any function $f\in L^\Phi (X,\mu )$ to satisfy

The constant C is independent of f and depends only on the family $\{\Psi _q\}$. Several examples of one-parameter families of Young functions satisfying our conditions are given, along with counterexamples when our conditions fail.

For $\kappa $ a regular uncountable cardinal, we show that distributivity and base trees for $P(\kappa )/{<}\kappa $ of intermediate height in the cardinal interval $[\omega , \kappa )$ exist in certain models. We also show that base trees of height $\kappa $ can exist as well as base trees of various heights $\geq \kappa ^+$ depending on the spectrum of cardinalities of towers in $P(\kappa )/{<}\kappa $.

In this paper, we prove a rigidity result for the product metric on the product of spheres $S^1\times S^{n-1}$.

The tame Gras–Munnier Theorem gives a criterion for the existence of a $ {\mathbb Z}/p{\mathbb Z} $-extension of a number field K ramified at exactly a tame set S of places of K, the finite $v \in S$ necessarily having norm $1$ mod p. The criterion is the existence of a nontrivial dependence relation on the Frobenius elements of these places in a certain governing extension. We give a short new proof which extends the theorem by showing the subset of elements of $H^1(G_S,{\mathbb {Z}}/p{\mathbb {Z}})$ giving rise to such extensions of K has the same cardinality as the set of these dependence relations. We then reprove the key Proposition 2.2 using the more sophisticated Greenberg–Wiles formula based on global duality.

Let f and g be analytic functions on the open unit disk ${\mathbb D}$ such that $|f|=|g|$ on a set A. We give an alternative proof of the result of Perez that there exists c in the unit circle ${\mathbb T}$ such that $f=cg$ when A is the union of two lines in ${\mathbb D}$ intersecting at an angle that is an irrational multiple of $\pi $, and from this, deduce a sequential generalization of the result. Similarly, the same conclusion is valid when f and g are in the Nevanlinna class and A is the union of the unit circle and an interior circle, tangential or not. We also provide sequential versions of this result and analyze the case $A=r{\mathbb T}$. Finally, we examine the most general situation when there is equality on two distinct circles in the disk, proving a result or counterexample for each possible configuration.

This note is motivated by recent studies by Eriksson-Bique and Soultanis about the construction of charts in general metric measure spaces. We analyze their construction and provide an alternative and simpler proof of the fact that these charts exist on sets of finite Hausdorff dimension. The observation made here offers also some simplification about the study of the relation between the reference measure and the charts in the setting of $\text {RCD}$ spaces.

We resolve some questions posed by Handelman in 1996 concerning log convex $L^1$ functions. In particular, we give a negative answer to a question he posed concerning the integrability of $h^2(x)/h(2x)$ when h is $L^1$ and log convex and $h(n)^{1/n}\rightarrow 1$.

We consider the attractor $\Lambda $ of a piecewise contracting map f defined on a compact interval. If f is injective, we show that it is possible to estimate the topological entropy of f (according to Bowen’s formula) and the Hausdorff dimension of $\Lambda $ via the complexity associated with the orbits of the system. Specifically, we prove that both numbers are zero.
